... drive through Romania has been, if I am to be honest, a little boring, especially since we left Sinaia. But, the car has given us a lot of flexibility, and we are seeing lots of different types of houses, lots of different fashions (my wind pants might not have been so bad in rural Romania), and without a car, we would never have been stuck behind a horse-drawn wagon full of fresh manure in Romania. ... set in the side of the valley high above the town. The Romanians clearly have a soft spot for Hollywood signs as,like in Brasov there was a Rasnov sign set into the hillside under the fortress. ... which was the summer residence of the royal family. There are three castles since each generation has its own. No one lives there anymore although the family and the state remain co-owners. We are now off to the resort town of Sinaia for lunch and some shopping. Ate lunch at Budegi. Had a delicious bowl of pork and country vegetable soup and a wonderful dessert. Only 48 lei ($16) compared to about 100 dollars in the hotel restaurant last night, but what can you do ...

... those be the mosques of Istanbul or the churches of Bulgaria - if there is a goal greater than oneself that is more visible, affecting, and pursued in this life than that of religious spirituality, then I can't think of it. I also think it is, at least in part, the reason why I would like to volunteer politically this summer for the first time in my life. I'm thinking that perhaps volunteering for the anti-marriage-amendment campaign in Minnesota may lead to a path in ...
