Michaela here ... Brrrrrr.... We made it into historic Salzburg after only a 2 hour train trip from Munich. Immediately we were hit with a fresh blast of chilled air, still no snow, but it gave us an excuse to whip out the jumbo jackets. Welcome to Austria! ... journey takes us. After mass we split up into several groups and took walking tours of Salzburg. We were able to see most of the shooting sights for Sound of Music and see a good bit of the town. We all met at our lunch spot and then broke off again for on our own free time. I ended up going with a fairly large group (which is not always good) to make way to the Fort (I forget the actual name of it). On the way, ...
... we soaked up the sun and ate them. It was so nice not to wear a coat and to be able to sit on the grass, without it being wet. We went to a music performance in the residency. They played traditional instruments and songs. It was really good until the harpsichord broke so we didn't get to listen to the last piece. We met some more Australians and went out for dinner and then to an Irish pub with them, where we met even more Aussies! It was a fun ...

It was only as I stood up to leave the theatre at about 10pm that I realized my ankle was quite painful. I managed to limp home, again convincing myself that my foot couldn’t be too badly hurt as the pain was really not too bad, and I was actually walking on it. When I checked my ankle back at the hotel, it was certainly swollen, but not bruised, so I convinced myself that a good night’s rest would see it ...
... the norm. Once through the old stone archway we were in the outer bailey of the fortress. The gravel path continued steeply up flanked by the fortress' thick stone walls through to a tunnel where they used to keep the horses; at the other end was the blacksmith's workshop and as we continued up past this, we came into the inner bailey. You could be forgiven for forgetting you were still in the fortress as you felt like you were in a little village! ...
