... the Ludwig’s right to dispose over his own army in case of war. This meant that Ludwig II no longer was the sovereign ruler, simply a vassal of the Prussian ruler. One year later, he began planning for a kingdom and castle of his own, where he could be a real king once again. This castle would be named “New Hohenschwangau Castle” and would be a
better recreation of the ideal medieval castle compared to his fathers. Perfection was the key with a mixture ...

... Munich arrived and hundreds of people came spilling out of the train as they jumped from the train platform onto the tracks and ran across multiple rail lines to get on the buses. It was crazy and just a small taste of the madness ahead at the castle. When we arrived the line to get tickets was massive and at 10:30 they were booking tours already for 5:30pm. I got in the much shorter pre booked line unfortunately when I got to the front and presented my ticket ...

Why haven't I heard about this? Why don't we have this? Was so good and refreshing. Back down to lower altitude, the temps were in their 30's. After lunch we quickly stopped by a traditional German pastry shoppe and enjoyed a Schneeball, a cookie snowball dating back 300 odd ...

... reason it is worth paying for a tour at all. Inside the castle is dark and uninspiring, full of religious imagery on the walls and slightly mad in places. Well, it has an unnecessary grotto/cave that only he,ps explain why the guy who built it, King Ludwig, ended up receiving the latter day equivalent of being sectioned in his bedroom there. The tour is a very quick half an hour in broken English and tells you nothing ...
