I'm Bone to be Wild!

So on our way from Prague to Vienna we stopped off firstly at the bones church of Kutna Hora.

This is by far the creepiest church I have ever been to. It is decorated with the bones of some 40,000 people. It supposedly all started around the time of the black plague, and there were so many bodies to bury over the years that they were starting to run out of space.. and everyone wanted their loved ones to buried in the same place.

We had a bit of a leaisurely start to the morning and caught the 9am train out to Kutna Hora, about an hour away from Prague. The draw here is the bone church,, the Ossuary in Sedlic. Work began on this church back at the beginning of the 14th century, but was reconstructed in its present form in 1784. The afternoon's detour will be to go to Auschwitz I, a concentration camp, and then Auschwitz II, or ...

Think Lays with a picture of a sliced ham steak on the bag. Apparently they tasted exactly like ham, I did not have the courage to find out. After another train and a bus ride, we arrived at the church and headed inside where all the bone decoration is ...

The thigh bone's connected to the... ceiling, so as to form a chandelier. Yup, it's ossuary day. Very worth the trip to see this particular bone collection. Far more impressively displayed and put together than the Paris catacombs. And then there's the cathedral of St. Barbory. Amazing. Beautiful gothic structure. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
