Lots of Bones, beautiul Churches... nice day

... br>Also, it has an "infamous" bone osuary. It's this small church/chapel location with thousands upon thousands of bones that the monks put together in a variety of arrangements, including a fantastic chandelier, and huge piles of bones. It was really impressive and quite macabre.

We then walked the other mile or so into town, walked around a bit, and made up to the fantaaaastic cathedral (oh, by the way both entrance fees were 50 Czech Krowns or 30 ...

Skeleton Chandelier Anyone?

... St. Barbara's Cathedral towering over the town. It is most impressive from the outside with resemblance to Notre Dame with its buttresses and gothic spires.

After wandering the town we have dinner at a neat old tavern that has a long menu of local items and some great beer on tap. We leave an hour before the last train for which I have info is supposed to go. We walk to the bus station to see if there is an earlier bus but the last one for the ...

Hiking on the Czech-German boarder

... stone bridge with views across the country. Once again the trip getting there and back was just as interesting as being there. Amazing, beautiful countryside. The hike up the mountain was fun – about 1.5hours to get up. When we got to the top the views were magnificent. My pictures really don't do justice to the views or the landscape:

http://www.facebook.c om/album ...

Don't Mess with Housekeeping

Most hotels will have a courtesy late check out time but they don't really tell you about it. You have to ask if you can stay an hour later or ½ hour or whatever. The last several times I have asked for this courtesy, I’ve been told, "We have to ask housekeeping". Wow, who knew that housekeeping runs the hotels these days? They are just like secretaries apparently ...

Out of the city

... just for clarification. It was grosse though, since there were pieces of plastic hidden within. PS: In total in Czech Republic I managed to only spend $215 Canadian dollars. That's a talent, since prices are quite comparable to Canada. PS: are people actually reading this? I'm doing it so you know that I am alive. But if no one looks at it there's really no point.
A side trip to Kutna Hora (Czech Rep.)

... There were a few more largish looking churches about, which we didn't go into as we were a bit churched out by then, so don't cancel your plans to visit on the strength of what I have written here... no doubt there is a lot more to the place than we were able to discover in the half day we were there. I would suggest that if you catch the train there, (you can get a connection from Krakow in a town called "Colin"), that you take ...

To The Chruch of the Bones

... overly full and the bone house was just as crowded. The church called upon a local artist to figure out what to do with all the bones. His interpretation was using them as art. As you walk in, the walls, ceilings and door ways are covered in skulls, femers, vertibrea and any other bone you could imagine. As you make your way into the sancturay you realize quickly this guy had an imagaination like none other. He had created a ...

A city once rich from silver

... Predictably, the next train turns out late - by 25 minutes this time! The only plus is that the conductor doesn't check our tickets until a while after Kutná Hora, so at least we don't have to pay extra for the additional, accidental leg. Even so, we don't get back into Prague until 6:30pm, which pretty much blows our daylight hours. Blah. . . Perhaps not so surprisingly, I'm kind of looking forward to getting back to efficient, timely Deutschland!

Skeleton Cathedral

Today we traveled with Rusty, a fellow American who broke the first rule of Prague which is never fall in love with a Czech stripper (more on that later), and went off to Kutna Hora, a small city about an hours train ride outside of Prague. It is most famous for Sedlec Kostnice, a small church with a famous chapel crypt containing the bones of over 40,000 people whihc are arranged in various designs: candelabras, coats of arms, giant pyramids, and a huge ...

Kauline baznycia ir panika del nakvynes

Sustojam Kutna Hora priemiestyje Sedlice, kur ir stovi toji kaulinė baznyčia. Įėjimas mokamas, fotografavimas atskirai kainuoja, filmavimas dar labiau.
