... the states. (usually 2am to about 5am) However, since they won the championship it really was worth it. The craziest game went into three overtimes and therefore ended at 7am my time…leaving just enough time to shower and go to work. I already feel healthier having some REM time again! Congrats to the Wings, and I hope you all had fun celebrating, I would have loved to be a part of it, but I participated as best I could from afar.

... hostel and it is closed (or so I think - I am trying to get in at the wrong door) After another 2 hours of sightseeing we decide to go and have an icecream. Christian goes in and orders his and then I wait to get mine. When I return to the table he informs me we were told to move, seems that Service is not practiced that much in East Germany. We ordered cups and not the more expensive 4 days worth of icecream and fruit bowls so we are not allowed to sit at the tables. We ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany penny.hope... 8230;and certainly have every bit as much right-of-way as cars!) Well this car just pulled out right in front of me, but then saw me at the last second and so just stopped right in the way. I slammed on the brakes and skidded all over the place before crashing into the front of the car. I was envisioning coming up with a good excuse for a bloodied face and missing teeth from a close encounter with the hood…fortunately ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... so you can see what I’m talking about.
The emotional connection to Weimar has never been stronger. After bidding farewell to Scott I bump into people all over town from the school. This place is becoming smaller and smaller. Being a teacher, it is really important that I keep myself well groomed and on my best behavior. Running into students is a very common occurrence!
In the afternoon I decide to enjoy the weather and bike up to ...
... delicious food and fun to hang out and laugh and have a good time away from the school. I ate a few pieces of pie and now that I’m home, I wish I could be in Tennessee for the day. Thanksgiving food is great, but I certainly miss seeing the family on this special holiday.
Anyway wishing you all a happy thanksgiving from Weimar. Send me a note about how things are going for you when you get a chance.

... they get a kick out of my energy and waving of hands and other antics. It is my opinion that the more I move around the class room and use body language then the easier time they have understanding the language and the concepts. Plus who ever liked a teacher with monotone voice!
Before we knew it, it was Friday. Unfortunately I don’t play football today because I have had a pretty good cold for the whole week, and while it is in the clearing ...
... The week was sort of an uphill struggle for everyone at the school, students and teachers. We have all been sensing the needed break that is now starting, it has been 2 months of continuous classes! I’ve never worked full time like this before in my life, and I’m wondering how I will manage for the rest of my working life. Maybe I’ll just find some way to avoid it entirely! I had to be a disciplinarian for the first time with ...
Ehringsdorf, Thuringia, Germany robconr... a cold day, and the wind really whips over the top of the hill and chills you to the bone. What a terrible, terrible place. As you approach you can almost sense the terror from the late 30s to 50s. Most of the camp had been destroyed but the Gatehouse, some guard towers, the crematorium, infirmary, and one barracks were still standing. Aaron took me around and explained some of the gruesome details. Suffice to say I was feeling physically ill ...
Hottelstedt, Thuringia, Germany robconr... by John Lennon… there are some songs that should not be remixed… let alone by some terrible sounding group. So we went out for some bier at an English pub place…
On the way home I was asked for directions… after I said I couldn’t speak German, we made a whole bunch of gestures. I hope the message got across.
I also faced the IKEA demons and went back there (once again with the South Afrikan family ...
I caught the train out of Prague on a bright Saturday morning, changed in Dresden and landed in the small provincial city of Weimar. It is not a particularly ancient town, having received its town charter only in 1410, but it is a lovely town, filled with parks and stately residences. Early on the town took on the cause of Reform after a visit by Martin Luther and it became the royal capital of Saxony in 1547. From that point Weimar ...
