        ... horrific ones too. There is an English theatre, it's closed at the moment but outside is a cupboard with novels in and on it a sign saying that they are free to take.         ... the end result. So after two very messy hours in the kitchen, I had a lemon meringue pie with a crust that was too thick and buttery (the substitution for shortening is butter, but 25% more of it), and a meringue topping that was too flat. I was never good at making crusts. I also had to hand-whip the meringue since we don't have a mixer. Brandon's tells me it was good, but I think he is just being nice because of the blood sweat and tears that went into it. He's a good husband...

        ... scoffed some reasonably priced pasta at one of the towns street dining areas. The hotel was quite basic, but the tea making facilities in the kitchen made sal very happy.
