Took the train into Vienna and got a different hotel room this time. This one was right on the Mariahilferstrasse so we'd be close to getting a shuttle for me back to the airport. This would be my last two nights in Vienna. This day we stayed in Pension Hargita run by a Hungarian family complete with Hugarian style kitchen. They served a nice breakfast and the place was very clean. Ditto to Pension Wilde where they served a nice breakfast in the morning, eggs, cheese, sliced meat, buns, juice...

Vienna: land of deep thoughts -- and ice cream

June 19 We slept in because the bus did not leave until noon. We made our way across the Chain Bridge and to the lovely park by Deak Fernec Ter (one of the main intersections). Even though the bus was a bit late in arriving, we only had a four hour ride to Vienna and made it by late afternoon. We checked in to our room at Pension Hargita, which is in a great location, about 10 minutes walk to most of the major sights. There are ice cream parlours about every fourth store on any major street i...

The City Tour took us around the city and on to Schonbrunn, named after the "good Stream" that flows through the grounds and it was built by Marie Therese (obviously not her personally) in the 18th Century. The Schonbrunn was the summer palace of the ...

Spring Break Stop 5: The City of Waltz

We packed up and made plan for next morning and crashed hard after our perfect last day and night in Vienna. April 14- We grabbed breakfast and lunch at a local bakery and checked out before revisiting the open air gourmet food market. This time, however, it was open, and ...

... with Graeme behind me...we clocked a great speed up to around 36km/per hour, Carl then decided to increase it to around 39km.....a bit too much for us, so we left them to fly ahead. Arrived in Vienna, wondered through the town...and watched the sad soccer game between the Netherlands and Russia...well I wont mention the score but the Netherlands defenitely didnt win. We were watching it at a Italian restauarant...run by a Russian couple....?? Only ...

Vienna

We had planned on catching a train from Budapest but as luck would have it a Hungarian train strike forced us to take the bus. The bus was packed with people travelling out of the country, but it was quite a bit cheaper. We arrived into Vienna and had to take the metro to our hostel. The metro system was very easy to use. It's so relieving to arrive in a new city and be a ble to get rid of the backpacks without any hassle. The whole ordeal of having to ...

Things were certainly not easy for her and her family under this system and have improved greatly since the early 1990´s. As we went through Brno (correct spelling), which is in Moravia she pointed out hundreds of blocks of concrete flats for the workers of the industry there. It was very cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There was a ...

A brief visit to Vienna

... s main tourist attraction: Schonbrunn Palace. Inhabited by the Austrian royalty until 1918, when the King abdicated (not by his own choice) and then fled in exile, the palace today stands as a beautiful tribute to Austrian royalty of the past. Lavish does not begin to describe the few rooms we viewed at the palace. In addition to the palace itself we visited the extensive gardens, hedge maze and elaborate green house. Well worth the trip as the place is ...
