Day 13 An 8am start this morning for our 284km ride today. Once again we had a cold and wet day to ride in. Todays destination is Olomouc which according to legend is one of Moravia's oldest towns and was founded by `Julius Ceasar. In fact it did not come into existence until the 7th century, when it was a major centre. ``in 1063 it was made a bishopric and in 1187 the capital of `Moravia. It;s university was founded in 1573. Sophie and myself bought ice creams once we'd finished the mini walking tour and sat around in the square with Alex and Sophie who are from Torquay and Brodie and Carly from Australia. After meeting our tour guide (Ben) and driver (Lukas), and getting a vague idea as to who else was on the trip, we were on our way. It was at this point we discovered the ...

... lunch, so we ate in the car, which I am sure didn't help anyone's mood. The drive then continued up higher into the mountains to the pass between Solvakia and the Czech Rebublic, where visibility was very limited, and the Slovak plows were very active (didn't see as many Czech plows). Except for the blizzard conditions, crossing the border was a let down - crossing the border in the US holds significantly more fanfare with large ...

... floors were concrete and there were two small fireplaces in each building. The camp is in just a normal large field but right as you go past the train station where the inmates were first taken to there is a sobering image of what all took place in the field in front of you. We spent four hours walking around Auschwitz-Birkenow and around every turn you could feel the death and cruelty that took place. In one of the buildings there was an ...
