... rode the funicular instead. From there we caught the train back to our little town, 6kms from where we started, and according to Marketa, we held the record for the season, return a full hour before the rest of her other groups did. Our reward was naps and showers before some of us tackled the next challenge; eating very large grilled pork knuckles.

Our escape in the mountains is complete and tomorrow we head towards the groups final spot, Budapest. ...

... and there was no such thing as a “safety barricade”. Rather, we were met with a 15m steel cross that was the site of many religious pilgrimages, including that of a group of 20-somethings that had been right behind us for the final ascent and made sure to stop for a mandatory selfie and a prayer once they reached the top. So even if you hadn’t found God yet, there was no better opportunity than now!

On the way down we managed to spot a Mother bear ...

... designated fit for work died within six months from the the hard work, disease and starvation. The Nazis kept all their possessions for redistribution to Germans and after the Germans were defeated there were huge warehouses of these possessions found at Auschwitz. There was even 2 tons of human hair which is on display in one of the buildings.

Took the bus from Kraków to Zakopane and then another bus to the start of the hike. ... get away from it all, seeking peace and solitude it's not that hard this of year to get off the beaten path and get a little silence. I have the hostel all to myself, the owner lives in the house next door. I arrive and he is not around so I take to exploring the town. Upon my arrival back the house is still empty and I am starting to get that creepy “Cabin in the Woods” ...
