The Austrian Alps

Being the first at breakfast, we caught the early bus to Salzburg. Here, without lingering, we rented our car. As we drove out of Salzburg, we saw hundreds of signs saying "Privat zimmer. Zimmer frei." Ah, we thought, this will be easy. The day was hazy, but still clear enough to see the peaks. We made one detour early on to see a lake -- cut into a crevase, deep blue. For lunch, we stopped in one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in Europe -- again, beside a lake. We had a filling l...

... far from the train station to the hostel which was really nice and the hostel was a good one with a bar and they even fed us dinner (we had potatoe grostl one night and pizza the next). Even though Steve had a drunk guy step on him while he was sleeping we enjoyed our time there. We walked through the streets and saw the square Maria ran across and the gardens where she sang and danced with the children in The Sound ...

Oops... I forgot about the Sound Of Music!

hey all,

I forgot about Salzburg... we went there before Prague... I guess I have put it out of my mind because KB sang the musical the whole time we were there! lol, it was great though...
We got to Salzburg at night and tried to follow the directions to the hotel, but we didn't know if we had to go right or left out of the train station, so KB asked some, what I thought were ...

The hills are a live...with the sound of music!

... we jumped in the van with all the other tourists...there were 8 of us in total, and headed to see the spots and scenes that you see in the movie the Sound of Music. I hadn't seen it in quite a while so I'll have to watch it when I get home to compare! But we were also able to see the gazeebo that is in the movie when they sing the song I am 16 going on 17...pretty cool. We took tons of pictures, and a lot of them were in the areas ...

Quality First, Quantity Later Fall Break: Salzburg

... a romantic, picturesque city, and practically everything closes early. I swear, the place seemed to completely shut down at about 5 PM. So we called it an early night, in order to be ready for some sightseeing the next day!

The next morning, we got up for my first real breakfast and milk since we’d left Paris (I’m surprised I wasn’t suffering withdrawal symptoms or something, though I did ...

... and asked them. German ladies on va ca from their families for the weekend. They were nice enough to let us follow them to their hotel. They asked if their was room for us.

Now the next part I give credit to my mom as she read my email from train station and lit some candles or something I'm sure. We ended up getting the last room in the place for about 99 euro. Clean room. Clean sheets. Wi fi. And a shower I ...

Sounds of Music...

... This makes the town another popular destination for tourists. Hmm, I must be sheltered because I have never seen the Sound of Music, nor do I know the storyline.

So, not being interested in the two major things that make Salzburg famous, I opted to walk around then city. It was small and cute. There was a large rock face that was directly vertical on one part of the town, and interstingly, the buildings and houses are built right ...

Spontaneous Salzburg

Gruss Got! And welcome to another entry of my travel blog. It is my last free weekend in Linz, and after having worked for the past 12 days straight in the lab, it was time for a day off. As I lounged about my room in my PJs, I get a sms (enough to make me jump, considering the scarcity whilst here) asking "Do you have plans today?" The response was a resounding no, and 20 minutes later Constanze and I had plans to visit Salzburg. Somewhere along the ...

... my mom and sister really wanted to do the “Sound of Music” tour, and we all agreed it would probably be fun (more fun than shopping anyway hehehe) so we woke up early and boarded a big hokey tour bus to see the places where the movie was filmed. We see the Von Trapp house, the little gazebo from the song “sixteen going on seventeen” the church where they got married, and other scenic beautiful stuff. It was pretty amusing to ...

The following day we decided to go over to Germany to see Hitler's Eagles Nest (house high on a mountain he used as his summer house) It was closed but we went to the museum and were allowed to explore the underground bunkers that were built into the hill side.
