... arrives, probably in an hour or two.

Now I'm feeling a little remote. I'm pretty good at making the best of a situation, and dealing with the resources I have. As I haven't eaten yet today, I search a few of the nearby gardens for a bit of fruit to tide me over. Under the cover of early morning light I find a mature pomegranate tree loaded with fruit. I grab 5 of the plumpest fruits I can find and wander ...

Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal sofenjon... shuttle bus to catch to Gatwick North terminal as the bus number and stop number printed on the ticket was completely different again to reality. Luckily, there were Network Express (bus company) on hand to save the day, but even then they didn't seem to know what was occuring and seemed to make things up as they went along anyway. We made the BA flight from Gatwick with plenty of time to spare so that's the main thing.

Another thing, I will also never again ...
Faro, Algarve, Portugal pat_n_mel... to arrive in hot places at midday carrying rucksacks and looking lost, we arrived in Tavira at around 1230 the mercury hitting 35 degrees, laden down and looking lost. Our hotel, booked online, for its proximity to the town centre could be seen high on a hill overlooking the town, perched in such a way as to be visible but seemingly disconnected from the narrow twisty streets. After a few wrong turns and a scare from a little but vicious dog, we ...
Tavira, Algarve, Portugal warm... discovering a gem of a local restuarant with amazing bbq chicken. 6 euro for dinner!!

The next day to fill in time before departing we looked at the Chapel of Bones, which was built from the bones of the monks from the local cemetary. Over 1200 skulls. Definite goosebumps eh!

Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal doviIt had rained quite heavily during the night and after breakfast I completed the (now cleared) finance move on the internet and we left the clean and recently modernized hotel. We were looking to get back on the northerly main road but because of the road works in town, we ended up heading west on a minor road through the fields, with a water canal and many irrigation channels running off it. The day was dull and cold with the sun ...
Faro, Algarve, Portugal harryandnorahOur final destination in Portugal was Faro, the capital of the Algarve. We arrived on October 5, a national holiday and the place was a ghost town. Only a handful of restaurants were open and barely a soul could be seen. We did manage to find a liquor store that was open that also sold basic sustenance. As our room had a balcony and it was a glorious day, we did a brief stroll of the town and headed ...
Faro, Portugal meganandkevin... We took a day trip to Lagos, which is a truly sun drenched and romantic piece of real estate. Oddly, we find ourselves in the middle of Missing Madeleine, as a young girl was abducted from the family home one evening a month ago leaving a very strange feeling within the town. Every window has the 'Missing' poster. Every story is about this. Faro has been a pleasant little stop, but I find myself chafing to get to Lisbon for something a bit less laid back.
Faro, Portugal claude_and_iain... on this terrain day-in, day-out. For $E20 a kilo that's what! Unfortunately the videos of swishing sea grass taken on Alex's camera came out as .mov files so I can't do much with them now, but will try to convert them and post a vid or two of the serene focus of her research. Very mellow but had great fun out there so it was a shame we didn't make it all ...
