The grounds had a romantic old pool, long and thin, surrounded by cedars, mount...

Portugal: Out to explore, not to conquer

... was probably pretty dangerous. All of us got wet though, because the waves always came up way higher than you anticipated, I was the first victim. I also managed to put down my purse in what I thought was a safe spot, was wrong, and had to chase it before it drifted off. No damage done. It was really fun, and great to run around in the sand. This beach is also a surf beach, and there was an ambulance parking spot, not very appealing if you ask me... Surfing is ...

On the outer perimeter was all the other exhibits which included penguins, otters, and other assorted fish. Sintra is Fabulous too!

... or discounted admissions to attractions).

I was glad I did. The interior of the palace was very pretty, and the ceilings all had animal themes. One room was painted with swans, one with magpies, and one with stags. When I left the palace I decided to walk around Sintra a little bit. There were some narrow, cobble-stoned streets leading up the hill, so I followed some. It was very pretty, with pastel ...

Sintra - Daytrip from Lisbon

... WILL need every last drop! After that, I continued hiking up to Pena Palace. It looks crazy on the outside, very colorful. The inside rooms were gorgeous, but you can´t take pictures... The queen´s quarters and even the ladies in waiting rooms were so pretty and I would not have minded waking up with the view that they had from the windows! The Arab Room was also elaborately decorated, mainly just the walls ...

... high above sintra is another palace flocked by moors castles, with more gardens and parks to explore. from sintra it was off to capo del boca which is easily portugal's version of the cliffs of moher. the little tidbit here is that it's the western-most point in all of europe, apparently (i guess people forget about iceland).

God Outdoes Himself in Sintra, Portugal

... my faith in the Portuguese. (Later in the trip, kind Lisboans would remind me again and again that generalizations are hard to make). We met an artist who gave us a tour of his studio and showed us the house near Sintra he had lived in for a year that was featured in a home and garden magazine-- a palace. A path flanked in greenery led us up the hill towards the castle (the path to the castle was closed ...
