... the afternoon we took a one hour cruise up and down the Mondego River. We got great views of the city.

The river was quite crowded with young people, possibly teenagers, in P class yachts and others in canoes. There seemed to be a minimum of supervision but when a few capsized and they stood up in chest high water we understood why. The river is very shallow.

... ice cream loving peacocks in Cristos gardens. For 5.50€ ($8au) you received soup, bread, bottled water and the plate of the day... Which just happened to be fresh grilled sardines... After breakfast I take a walk down to see the archway we had had to negotiate yesterday in the car. I also climb up on to the city wall. No handrails or safety barriers. Its great. We check out. The road out of the walled village isn't as bad as the way in. The main difficulty is getting the throngs of tourists to get out of the way so we can get past. Its motorway all the way to our next stop, Coimbra. We are staying at ...

... a success. An area well worth a visit. Since Lisbon we have seen a complete industrial/commercial hub with stretches of the road with ceramic and brick manufacturers. I now know why so many top bathroom brands are based here.
I spent some time in a lovely yard which has the Pizza ovens ready to install in your garden. It's just a pity I have no room!
Nevertheless I have some pictures and I can get plans off the internet!
