Bussaco Forest was sought out in the 6th century by Benedictine monks for its serenity and isolation. Leaving Lisbon our first stop is called Obidos about 90 kilometres to the north. It's a medieval town on a hilltop surrounded by a fortified wall. The houses are whitewashed, the streets are cobblestoned, winding and narrow.
