Peninsula Guernsey

We got on to the ferry to Saint Malo and Julz was feeling sea sick. Instead of sitting in our club class seats, she chose to spend an hour outside and then the rest of the journey in cattle class right at the back of the ferry!! Si was very supportive x

... immigration and customs, picked up our bags and
headed for the train station at the airport to take us to the
Centraal Station in Amsterdam. The line was pretty long to get a
ticket, but we got the train and headed to downtown Amsterdam.

We arrived at Centraal Station and went
to the tram office to get a 3 day tram pass and hopped a tram to the
Rembrandtplein (square ...

... br>and walk around the island for the afternoon. Heather, Whitford,
Sandy, Laura and I arrived on the small island of Herm and walked to
the small village at the harbor and sat at the Mermaid and had a
drink and lunch. The clouds were beginning to part and soon the sun
shone and the rest of the day turned out to be glorious. After lunch
we started hiking around the island, stopping to be informed by

... made our way down to Market Street and the Fish Market. Bought ourselves some Jersey fudge and chocolates and Jacqui got a new dress. Then we walked back and had dinner at the cafe below the Pomme d'Or Hotel. I had rump steak with melted cheese and avacodos...and I'm sad to say I was more impressed with the grilled veggies that came ...

... thinking that maybe it was like the Steppes of the Mongolian wilderness. Nope...it was steps as in staircases. The town is NOT handicap friendly. Our hotel was up enough steps to give me a little bit of a sweat. Good thing we packed light (relative to our normal amount). The hotel though was pretty nice and the front desk woman is GREAT. She offered to do the laundry for us when I was asking for directions to the closest launderette. HOW ...

The weather was terrible on Saturday, so we laid around and watched Christmas movies all day (which is only allowed b/c we had already celebrated Thanksgiving). St. Peter Port in Guernsey, Channel Islands was an interesting mix of British and French culture. Street names, architecture, and language are a blend of influences. We toured the main Anglican church and saw with marble statues and tombstones written in French. There was a small street market filled with handcrafted jewelry and pottery, and British pubs that promised to bar patrons who were too rowdy during football games.

... taking a photo and being in it! Yipeee. I am sure that will come in handy. Only 17 days until we leave Guernsey so we are using this as a test of my competence on this travelpod. WOW!!! 1 week to go!! Time really does go fast, it's pretty ridiculous! Luke left last week to go to a wedding before we meet up next Monday, it was pretty funny seeing him saying goodbye to everyone, you could tell that this whole thing didn't hit him till he had to say farewell to people he wouldn't see for a year.
