South Water Caye, Belize Cayes, Belize, 501-522-2044
... with all my concentration and might, i couldnt move the left side of my body, frustration and annoyance in myself was creeping in and being on an island the size of a footy pitch and 60 miles from land was all becoming a serious issue.
eventually the only thing we could try was oxygen, he hooked me up to the oxygen machine (which could have been dated to before diving was invented) and within 10 minutes, i was pretty much back up on my feet....
So on return to dry land, i ...
... to the surface which was ideal for snorkelling (although I still think I preferred Scuba). AC kept popping up and telling us what we were looking at though which was good, and he had a stick to point with and would occasionally swim down to the bottom to poke/point at something for us (a couple of large stingrays hidden by the sand and some eels, and a barracuda). And there was a lot of brain coral (our new favourite thing) around.

... the locals. We decided on a snorkel tour with AC in the afternoon to see manatees and snorkel the middle of the reef away from the island and spent the morning snorkeling around the Reef's End Lodge's reef. Mario didn't have many customers for the morning so he took us out snorkeling on a free private tour. The visibility is amazing, you can see 50 to 60 feet out into the ocean. We saw turtles, yellow rays, eagle rays, spotted eagle rays, barracudas, rainbow parrot ...
Tobacco Caye, Belize Cayes, Belize tipperoonie... pretty roudy, we are told to buy our tickets before lining up, then after the local cops check us out, we enter the gates into a jam packed, pumping stadium. The game is entertaining, actually the audience are probably more so, everyone has a bottle of spirits under one arm and a few litres of juice under the other. We opted not to take the cam for this one as our experience with soccer games are ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize cosbo... with. In 1635, 2 slave ships wrecked off the island of St. Vincent and the West African slaves mixed with the Caribs to create the Garifuna. By 1763 the French had a presence on the island and traded with the Garifuna. Then the British wanted to lay a claim to the island. In this fight between the French and the British, the Garifuna sided with the French and had a peace pact ...
Dangriga, Belize margreet98Claire: We have news... we've found paradise. Belize is what I always imagined Jamaica would be like, only without the gang- and drug-related crime and with a slightly more understandable version of Patois (Creole English). We did manage to get here the day after we wrote our last blog. We met a guy who called himself 'Flash' down at the dock and he said he had a boat that could get us as far as Puerto Barrios in Guatamala and that if we didnt make the ferry from there to ...
Tobacco Caye, Belize Cayes, Belize hanscottclaire... for ourselves and sworn to never drinking rum punch again!! I woke at sunrise to the sounds of Gareth out on the beach hurling. I on the other hand felt surprisingly good. It was a very quiet trip that day. The snorkeling just increased Gareth's headache so he was down below for most of the day feeling very sorry for himself and hoping he'd be able to keep lunch down. The teenage boys on the boat set about trying their luck again fishing. Their dad soon had pulled in a 6lb ...
Tobacco Caye, Belize Cayes, Belize gareth.alanna... i sentieri!
Dangriga, Belize globetrotterch... our national anthems - heard the Belizean, English, Aussie and Kiwi ones and we did an attempt at the haka. Rather entertaining. Dr Espat got really drunk and started hoochy-dancing all over the place especially with Jono. Then we made a night-time mission to the hospital and she signed off our elective assessment forms that she'd forgotten to do earlier, heheheh. By the time we got home we had two hours left to get some sleepies before we began our bus mission to Cancun!!!
Dangriga, Belize jenni_poortman... sharing that with me. Kismet: Its such a hard time deciding between business and lovemaking. Me: Well, I'm next in line. It was nice talking with you. Kismet: Tonight we'll be having shrimp in a mango sauce. It will be delicious. Me: I will keep that in mind. Thanks. No mango shrimp for me. That night I watched some traditional drumming at the guesthouse where I was staying. Unlike the stuff that ...
