The Mornington Peninsula

... in Melbourne, just think we'll be sailing on it in under 4 weeks time. The other popular attraction at Point Nepean is the spot where we lost a prime minister. The surf is pretty dangerous here and it's where Harold Holt dissappeared. As mentioned earlier we did spend two days in Melbourne, we caught the train in on both occasions. On our first day we got off the train at Flinders Street and jumped straight onto a tram, a first time experience for all of us but not the most pleasant ...

Penguin Parade

When we first got to Melbourne, we marveled at the weather.  It was nice and warm, although it was pleasant warm, not like sticky hot Florida warm.  The air is pretty fresh, clean, and relatively dry. Our hotel is pretty nice, although they tell people they have high speed internet, then charge an arm and a leg extra for it. We got settled and went foraging for a quick lunch as our first tour was less than an hour away.  I found this cute place called ...

Day 3 - Phillip Island

... had stopped by this time.  About 8.25pm, just on dusk, we saw the first lot of penguins roll in on the surf; the ranger said that it would have to get a bit darker before they felt safe enough to come ashore. The surf seemed to toss them around, up and down, but they headed in the direction of the beach all the time. Once at the shore, they just hovered, moving up and down the beach until they decided to come ashore.   Once the first group came ashore, other ...

Phillip Island, land of the little Penguins!

... having her tummy tickled. In the wild you wouldn't tickle a wombats tummy as they would probably try to crush you. They have a hard plate in their back to protect their burrows from predators, this will also be used to crush anything that does manage to get into the burrow. Next we saw some Koalas who, unlike the Koalas in Queensland & the other states, you are not allowed to touch as they are slightly larger & have ...

Christmas Celebrations - Phillip Island

KT: We arrived at Phillip Island on Christmas Eve and we are pleased that we chose to celebrate christmas here as there is so much to see & do. We did think initially thou that we may be celebrating with just one other couple, however, the camp site did fill up later in the day. Our camp site being just on the island near the mainland bridge & located on the beach. Steve saw his first Koala, we went to a conservation centre ...

LOOONG Day

... diana). But its all so expensive down here. Even with the favorable exchange rate, ice cream is like 9 dollars (ASD). So, i just got some cookies and cream- not many flavors...and just to let you know, the ice cream down here is no good. it tasted like the cheap strawberry kind you buy at walmart. must be the cream they use or something. big dissapointment. Some more people finally got to the hostel..got to go....

The end of the road...for Melbourne

... On my last night in the house Jim cooked a huge lasagne and we all had some wine which was a nice gesture. I moved back into Marissa and Jonny's place for a week (thanks again guys). Did my first race for a long time with Marissa's club (Richmond) - was a 4.2km run, my shortest ever race. Think I ran about 19.12 which is pretty **** but I guess not bad off little training - long way to go yet and I'll stick to longer distances. Ended up spending a lot ...

... shore, but if they turn around to dive back into the water, they become invisible, because their feathers are blue, so you can't see them from the back. When they finally come out, they then waddle up the beach, and head inland a few hundred yards to their sand dune burrows. One little guy actually walked up the beach near the bushes, but then turned, and waddled across the beach parallel with the shore, which did not commonly happen. Since he was the ...

The Coast to Portsea

... to purchase new poles or a tent and they'd reimburse us for the cost!! On Tuesday (3/6), we stopped off at purchased a new tent as well as foam mats, did a bit of grocery shopping and continued south along the coast. We called it a day about 4 hours later when we arrived in Burrill Lake. Our campsite was located on the lake and had these amazingly large pelicans! That evening, we decided to cook up some corn and realized ...

Phillip Island
