... we passed through security who checked the large locker, under the sofa and in the back storage area, it's a good job we didn't stow away any of those cats and dogs! We then cooked tea and settled in for the long wait at dock no. 5. Other vehicle began to arrive, wagons, white vans, a camper van, an overlander built on a small wagon chassis and cars, the occupants wandered about, some chatting in groups, the wagon drivers sat at the side of the vehicles and cooked ...

The main thing we learned was that the weight limit for BA flights to the US was 34 kg, but everywhere else it’s 20kg. We headed out of town to Achilleion Palace, the retreat for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. We had learned about her life when we were in Vienna last year. She built this house in Corfu in late 19th century style and decorated it with Gods of Ancient Greece, primarily Achilles for which the palace is named. We spent a couple of very interesting hours in both the house and the gardens and admiring the spectacular views. Did I mention that ...

      Rainy day in Corfu

We arrived in Corfu in quite heavy rain. We had organized a hire car for €43 which was very reasonable, and decided we would continue on with our plans. We drove to Paleokastritsa Bay which would have been beautiful on a nice day with a very rugged coastline and beaches. There was a monastery that we walked to with raincoats and umbrellas and viewed the inside of the church. Greek churches have flat ceilings and are decorated ...
