... from the port. There is a decent travel sleeping window to be made use of. We are the first tour bus to arrive for the day so we quickly head through the town and up the hill (via the traditional donkey of course) to reach the top before the thousands of other tourists start flocking in. The acropolis looks like a castle, it has massive walls or sheer cliffs around the entire complex, towers, a portcullis, archer niches and above the ...

From Rhodes, we took a 3 hour ferry to Symi, an incredibly delightful island. A small island, the dwellings and infrastructure are essentially heritage listed so they all retain the character of the previous centuries. The little Greek houses are all similar colours - yellow, pale yellow and cream with the ...

... a serf back then. Our tour today was to be a walking tour of medieval Rhodes, and it was, but it was also too much recent and not so recent greek history and ended up with a long discussion of greek statuary. Rhodes screamed crusades to me. Again from the distance of several centuries, facinating. Up close, ...

Island hopping in the Greek Isles - Rhodes

... Towards the end of our stay on Rhodes, we took a 55km bus trip to Lindos, which is about half way down the east coast of the island. It's famous for its ruins and its beaches. We could have taken the donkey up the mountain but one whiff of the donkey poo in the 35 degree heat put paid to that! We admired the ruins from afar that day and instead headed to the local's beach to swim in the clear water and for Andrew to do bombies off the rocks!
