Many have now been restored whilst the visual treat of neoclassical houses heaped up the hill are a newer build (mostly 1970's).     Picture this...Grilled Aubergine, stuffed juicy tomatoes, fried calamari, sakanagi, Greek salad...heaven on a plate!   When the ferry turned the stony massif indented by deep gulfs to reveal Symi you have before you a living memorial to the 19th Century.
