Italian leather... a girl's best friend

I liked Florence so much the first time I went, I came back! I realized in August that I loved this city and that I didn't have enough time to spend here, so I decided I wanted to go back to enjoy the slower moving life of Florence.

The first day we got to Florence, Katy and I went straight to the leather market. I had been eagerly waiting the entire semester to buy a new purse, and I knew I had seen several I really liked in Florence, so I had made ...

Thanksgiving

... Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing, Potatoes, and Mixed Vegetables. For dessert pumpkin pie, ice cream, and apple cider! It was nice to spend the night with classmates and a few professors.

Friday night, we had yet another Thanksgiving with all of my friends. Everyone prepared their favorite dish and we spent the night telling stories of our families Thanksgivings.

Florence... art and leather

... photo and video exhibition on display which was really cool - need to look up the Patti Smith video he did and see if I can watch it in full.

Found a stall in the markets selling tripe on bread rolls with parsley and olive oil- super yumm!!! Found out later it's another Florence local specialty.

Went to Farmacia Sta Maria Novella which is a really cool epothicary/pharmacy that has been making lotions, potions, elixers and ...

Cinque Terre - yeah yeah

... whatever we wanted from that room... This was at 3pm too, not like we arrived at some weird hour.
The "dorm" was just an apartment with 6 beds in 1 room, a kitchen and 4 beds in the room joined to the kitchen with no door between - check out the photos on facebook.
Glad we booked the cheaper 6 bed dorm and not the more expensive 4 bed!!!
Found out later that day they have another "dorm" downstairs with a 6 bed room and a double bed in ...

Cooking Class

Hi Everyone!

After an exhausting weekend in Brussels, I was in for yet another treat with cooking classes in Florence. Organized by my school, a group of us met with a chef for some lessons.

We were taught how to prepare typical Tuscan cuisine including Ribollita and Stuffed zucchini-flowers.

Everything was delicious & I look forward to trying these recipes at home!

I'll update you soon,

Tour de Florence Afoot, part 2

Alright, I'm finally starting to get the hang of this expatriate thing. Managed to figure out how to ride the bus (no mean feat, since I think I've ridden maybe 3-4 times in my 8+ years in Portland), got the pass, and waited for it to pick me up. Waited some more. Waited a little longer. Turns out, that particular bus route to the boonies where I'm staying is a bit, say, hit and miss. No worries though, the busses on the other route look like they run ...

A EuroTraveler Sojourn to Galleria dell' Accademia

... in the latter part of his life. Paling in comparison, but nonetheless not be overlooked, these "Prisoners" or "Slaves" or "non-finito" sculptures were originally intended for the tomb of Pope Julius II. However, some scholars believe that Michelangelo intended to leave them unfinished and today, it's debated to the point of exhaustion. In either case, you really get a sense of the extraordinary amount of work that goes into sculpting. If you look closely at ...

... in the city, but the only one committed to burial of the Medici family. It has a pleasantly spartan interior, with the perfect proportions that the Renaissant men are so obssessed with, and an awsomely modern tomb of the founding member of the family Cosimo the elder. The slab of marble set on the ground was etched with clean geographic lines ad filled in by contrasting colors. As much as the family is capable of yielding tyrants, they get credit for being major ...
