... food. Sausages and salami is definitely quite big here. But
there are other things that stick out more. One of them is Fornetti.
It's a chain of stores around the country and you never seem to be more
than a 5 minute walk from one. Some of them are like small cafe`s, and
others are just stalls at bus stations. Typically what they sell is
deep fried 'things' ranging from balls of salty dough, to pastries with
sausages in them, to other savoury type dough ...

Senta, Serbia poslovni... light brightens up the room, I suddenly find myself being part of this historic moment on the battle fields of North Hungary after one of the most crutial wins that provided these nomadic people with a home for thousands years to come. It was truly a humbling experience for all of us including Rayden who later on mentioned the picture as a most favorite part of the day.
Of course there is much more to see ...
Szeged, Hungary r.laaksoThings really shut down in Europe on Sundays and Szeged was no exception. It's particularly bad in smaller towns when you're hungry and everything's closed...we felt like hobos, searching for food, and especially so when we stumbled across a Knorr van offering free soup-in-a-bun samples, and dove in!

Aside from closed shops though, there were certainly more pretty buildings, and even a lovely fountain to see!
Szeged, Hungary fiseb... I learnt some words and how to count until... 3. Well, it's not so easy. I try to read signs but look what signs they have. Look at this city. How can you remember such long and impossible words? My room is really huge. It has a huge double bed and it has a balcony overlooking the yard with vines. The restaurant is really fabulous. It was so tasty.

Subotica, Serbia and Montenegro sall... of Budapest. When we told Gergor our plans to visit Pécs, he approved. This wasn't always the case. When I would mention places outside of Hungary, particularly in Slovakia and Romania that I wanted to visit, Gergor would speak in Hungarian for about a minute, and then Valerie would translate "Gergor has opinions about this region." But, on his recommendation we are in Szeged, and I have to say there's little to hate about this city. It's bright and there's lots of ...
Szeged, Hungary cantelon-polley... was a bit to much; it was like staying with the Gallagher's from Shameless. A huge extended family sat in the back yard for 12 hours each day slowly falling into a drunk stupor which was not particularly pleasant when combined with the complete disdain they showed towards us. Their unfriendly behavior was peculiar given that tourists like us appeared to be their only source of income - did any of these people have jobs? However, the couple in ...

Once off the train, I looked for the closest ATM, pulled out about 10,000 Serbian dinars (just short of US$170) and then bought a train ticket out of town. By just a few minutes after 10, I was back on the rails northwards again, aiming for the old Hungarian town of Szabadka, now better known by its Serbian name: Subotica. Vojvodina is where the mountains of the Balkans fizzle out and disappear. Basically an extension of the Carpathian Basin, the region feels and looks exactly ...
Subotica, Serbia and Montenegro xerius... Corso, are a very strange mix of architectural styles, each successive style seeming to try harder and harder to outdo the previous in their attempts to catch your attention. The Art Nouveau buildings were the definate winners in that little competition. The enormous Town Hall (at the culmination of the Corso) is an imposing edifice of colourful decoration and rustic ornamental motifs, and the nearby Blue and Green fountains are garish enough to ...
