    ... flippin good few days though full of good conversation and pure relaxation.

    On the 11th we had a leisurely breakfast after getting up at ridiculous o'clock to bid farewell to Gerard. Then we had a final drink with Marie and Seb before boarding the ferry back to Parapat and on to Medan. As Medan is a complete **** hole, we crawled into McDonalds for dinner so that my mum could add Indonesia to her list of McDonalds visits. We sound really classy...

    ... viewed from the bottom. Not having the time (or energy) for a 2 hour round hike to the base of the waterfall it was back in the car for the final stint of the journey.

    During the last 2 hours driving through the dramatic mountainsides, we caught sight of Samosir, the lakes central island where we would be catching a ferry to and staying for 4 nights.

Here is a collage of the scenery along the way and a few shots of my currently preferred hot-spring bath-house (in the photo it is the blue shop-front up to the left). Ps: if you haven't worked out from the photos, I do love the traditional Batak houses. The move to a more western square style house is NOT a move forward in my books!

    ... breakfast and the relief of the outside warmth was so so nice but they kept the bus running and subsequently the aircon. By 5am I could not take it anymore, my hands and face was numb with cold. I asked why so cold and they just laughed, hilarious everyone is freezing and desperately trying to block their aircon units. We arrived at 6am 13hrs later not 17 but he did drive like a lunatic. I asked about the aircon at my hotel and they said they have no control over ...

    ... the lake we made it back to our neck of the woods and decided to treat ourselves to a few cold beers and a nice meal to celebrate such a great day. We certainly lucked out with the weather, the local finds, and the views.
    Our next day we had a relaxing morning sunbathing by the lake and enjoying several fresh water dips before having to pack up our things and check out before catching the ferry back to the mainland. I got lucky with a travel agent on Tuk ...
