      ... viewed from the bottom. Not having the time (or energy) for a 2 hour round hike to the base of the waterfall it was back in the car for the final stint of the journey.

      During the last 2 hours driving through the dramatic mountainsides, we caught sight of Samosir, the lakes central island where we would be catching a ferry to and staying for 4 nights.

      ... tourist oriented side of the island. Here is a collage of the scenery along the way and a few shots of my currently preferred hot-spring bath-house (in the photo it is the blue shop-front up to the left). Ps: if you haven't worked out from the photos, I do love the traditional Batak houses. The move to a more western square style house is NOT a move forward in my books!
