This month we visited Spain and took a tour into the town of Avila. It has huge walls that date back to the Roman empire in 1090.

Its main monument is the imposing Walls of Ávila (11th-14th centuries),

... metro de Chamberí y quedé con Juan para también dar un paseo por el centro y ya por la noche me reuní con Carlos, Ferran i Rocío con los que me fui de tapas.

Al día siguiente Rocío me llevó de excursión al Escorial y luego estuvimos en su casa de Majadahonda antes que me acercara de vuelta a Moncloa en Madrid para volver ya para Barcelona.

... historic town is about a 10 minute walk from the walls!

It's a gorgeous little historic town. The town is most known for its huge walls!

Also Avila is famous for the saint Teresa of Avila.

Things to do: The Cathedral, Go up on the Walls, St. Vincents Basilica, Cathedral Museum and Oriental Art Museum.

Very pretty town! Spend a day here!

... as massive as the one in Washington, D.C.; however, I believe this one is much more ornate. That may be because it dates from the late 16th century.

Within the walls there is also a very extensive art museum. On display are very famous paintings such as the Martyrdom of Saint Maurice and the Theban Legion by El Greco, 1580-83.

Based on the number of things one is able to tour, El Escorial is very definitely worth the time and money to ...
