... our tour of the local sites we met up with Nikki for dinner at a small, local paella place. I don't like spending the money but I'm going to be freezing all day in class if I don't get some stuff to wear. I guess I'll at least have a nicer, dressy coat when I get back to the states.

Nothing much to update. I uploaded a few more pictures from Salamanca that didn't fit onto the last entry.

... I know I looked like a hardcore tourist just wandering around taking tons of pictures, but I'm to the point where I don't really care. I'm a foreigner. People can deal with it.

My host mother made me cheesecake, got me new socks and sang for me. It was absolutely adorable.

Salamanca go in the morning for some siteseeing on salamanca. Hang out in square. See Church. Look for frog. Lunch on the steps. Naps and pool for the afternoon. Sue stays with kids and Ev, Julie and Tom Listen to music on the square drinking beers. 13.50 for 4 beers, coffee, and drink. Not in Switzerland any more.

           

... I made sure to stop at the Chocolate Factory to get her a present. The SECOND part of this entry is about our excitement over getting our haircut here in Spain. That's right....you heard me....haircut. In a foreign country. With a language barrier. Please let that sink in a little. A bunch of us had been discussing it thouroughly and then I got a recommendation for a "peluqueria" from a girl in my spanish class, so we decided to arm ourselves with haircut vocab from our advisor ...

Today was a quick but exceptionally hot side-trip to Salamanca. This is where I studied as a student. I got some great sweatshirts. Unfortunately, they are of no use to me now because it is over 100 degrees. I will now try to download pictures.

... to the ranch. Here we participated in a capea, which is sort of like a mini bullfight. I was in a small bullring with another student from the trip and a baby bull. We waved a cape and the bull would run at it, and we had to properly maneuver ourselves in order to avoid getting hit by the baby bull. This was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life--knowing that this large animal, even though it was a baby, seemed to have more control over my life than I did.

... AIFS (American Institute for Foreign Study) and the Universidad de Salamanca. I traveled here in the beginning of January and will be here until the end of May. ... much like a loner i quickly found out. tommorrow i am off to portugal!! exciting but scary as i dont speak portugese and do not have a guide book for the country, not even definate that there is a bus going there, have i mentioned recently that i like to make things hard for my self? just hope that the tourist office has given me the right times for buses, otherwise i might head to the north of spain, i am sure there will be a bus ...
