After our 2 day sail we pull into Portamao and decide to drop anchor rather than go into the marina as it was a lovely big bay by the beach and a lovely afternoon. Just what we needed after 2 long days at sea. The sunset was beautiful and a cosy night in board before getting up at 3 to head onto Sines on the west coast of ...

As we headed south there were lots barren dry lands....bit like Australia actually. Almost expected the odd Kangaroo to appear. Very little grown it was so dry ... Then we went further and lots olive orchards, orange trees, and some animal farms. A very quick trip along the motorway .... Great roads and easy to get somewhere fast. Listening ...

... maps are of little use (roads you think are next to each other are actually 20ft above) and driving/navigating is challenging. After a wander, a walk up the Torre dos Clérigos (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torre_dos _Cl%C3%A9rigos) and a chill in the park, we again follow the N roads to Coimbra, where we stay for the night in Parque Verde – another free aire.

In the morning, we cycle through the park into the surprisingly big town of Coimbra. I learn the ...
