... in a background of mountains, rainforest and islands. We've spent 3 days here. On our first day we went on a jeep tour into the rainforest to find waterfalls and cachaca distilleries (a rum like spirit made from sugar cane). We even found a waterfall that was pretty much a slide - it was awesome!!!! Yesterday we went on a boat trip island hopping which was beautiful. The 21h bus ride i was dreading is actually really nice so far, it is like a really long episode of National Geographic with Ry Cooder playing through my headphones! Saw mountains, rivers, lakes, cows, birds, cities, villages and the odd forest fire. So green everywhere, and so many palm trees! Also loads of mac donalds', a massive carrefour and lots of 'keverkes' or beetle volkswagens. The roads are really good! After ...

The hotel is on top of the mountain with a nice view over the town. We had more time to enjoy the place, because the night leg was cancelled. In fact, during the day drive over the mountain several cars (us included) were hit by eggs and tree branches and the organisers did not want to risk accidents at night.
