A Day (or two) in the Life of Benita

... She would be full of shock if I didn't fix my own button when she spent time teaching me the secret fool proof way to secure them for a lifetime.... or close enough!
So I sewed, and sipped tea. Eventually Anna decided we needed to go out (and so she could get her hair cut) and off we went to hang out at Cousin Maria's Shoe Store in Vibo, where there were no people, half the stores were closing early, and all the signage out in the street was being coerced into ...

Back to the Roots

... I cracked under the pressure! None of my clothes fit me, I'm swimming in my jeans and I look like a bum! So I... bought a pair of pants! What an ordeal it was!
Regardless, they are hanging on the line blowing in the wind, waiting to be beaten for the next two weeks.

This week I'll be hanging out where the roots grew, and then I'm going with Anna to Reggio Calabria where she attends university, for a few ...

We will never forget it nor the reception we received not only from the locals, but the Raso family that made it so easy for us to enjoy ourselves and make the most of it. This visit was something that we were looking forward to for a long time. It did not disappoint and will not soon be forgotten. Thank you Thank you Thank you! Now we head to the Amalfi coast! The Deep South (of Italy)

... and needy. We then drive right across Italy to the other side, which is actually not that far, and visit Pompei. It is a fantastic site - a whole Roman town, incredibly well preserved, considering it was destroyed 2000 years ago (along with Herculaneum and a couple of other smaller towns) Houses, fast food shops, temples, baths, brothels, the whole layout of the town is there (with Vesuvius, it's destroyer looming close by) - your imagination can provide the rest. We try ...

Tropea - I had no idea!

... the weather was just perfest for swimming. What an amazing place! Also fortunately it isn't one of the places in Italy taken over by tourists so the town is very down to earth and not full of all these flashy hotels and restaurants like we found on Capri. While we were driving along one day we saw a sign saying this way to the site where Jesus appeared in 1932 and again at ...

The Hunt for the La Praia Hotel

... to drive the length of the boot, hop on the ferry and then drive to the B & B in Sicily. A good plan and before leaving the B & B in Sorrento, she had located a hotel in Tropea for us to spend the night. We made good time on the A3 and at Lagonegro, we exited the A3 and jumped on the SS18 towards Pizzo. The SS18 was a recommendation from our B & B host as it is a coastal road and has good views of the ...

With the family in CALABRIA! Sant'Onofrio & more
