Beautiful Zermatt

We got up early and had a great breakfast in the nice dining area in the hotel. We went to pick up our skis from Roc Sport- Hans always is happy to see us (we took him and his wife some souvenirs from Canada). After setting us up with skis and poles, he gave us a 10% discount on the works! You can find all the live webcams of Zermatt and Cervinia at this link: http://bergbahnen.zermatt.ch/d/web-cam/ standort.html We did a little shopping- the Co-op has a great wine selection and very good pri...

Zermatt- Christmas Day

Had another fabulous day of skiing in the sun from the top of Rothorn to Gent then up to Gornergrat and up and down many times. We had a simple but good soup lunch at Riffelberg. We had a great day then skid Riffelberg to the Fury Gondola and back into Zermatt. Went to the spa at the Parkhotel Beau and had a nice relaxing swim and sauna then to the local outside pub Pepperda Pub- run by a couple of Aussies from Canada! We had dinner at Walliserkanne again and it was fabulous as usual- I had R...

The Matterhorn

I am only stayin the night just to see the Matterhorn. The sun is out and I took a hike up nearby hill. It was about an hour and a half uphill walk with regular short stops to catch my breath. I think I have had enough of hiking now, I did 4 hours of it at Montreux as well, I must have the best **** at the moment. Spectacular view of the mountain at the hilltop though. It's less of a mountain and more of a giant pinnacle of rock. It looks menacing, to prove it there is a nearby graveyard full ...

... to go UP it in 20 minutes!! Unbelievable!

On our walk back to the hotel we had our first of what would be many encounters with cows and their bells in Switzerland. There was a guy walking his cows into town and they all had bells around their necks making a clunky tune as they walked. It was so charming!

Back to our room and Witek was feeling a bit worse for wear seeing as he wasn’t 100% well before our 5 hour hike. We decided to just get take away ...

Day off for the navigator

... br>We had decided to travel via Aosta, so as to get as close to the roadbook outlined route as possible. About midday, we got our first views of Mont Blanc, or Monte Bianco, as the Italians know it. As we turned off the motorway, we could still see it, until the narrow winding roads took us across the other side of another mountain.

Now we realised this was our last chance to get the police photo, as soon we
wouldn't be in Italy any ...

Shivery Zermatt!

... Zermatt itself is a very beautiful place - so picturesque! We were however slightly disappointed with the Ice Caves as most of the sculptures had melted so most of it was closed off, which was a bit rubbish but hey ho - you win some, you lose some eh (& we did get two free bars of chocolate, so it wasn't all lost!)! I imagine when the sculptures are done in the winter season the Ice Caves would be amazing & we would definitely like ...

Well 3 hours later and about 4 different trains and a bus, i was finally there late that night and crashed out in a little alp hotel. Up early the next day, i hiked up the road taking in the view of mount blanc on my right, into the town center. I stuffed the remaining room in my massive ...
