Neuschwanstein castle

... the place in the decorations. After our tour, we decided to walk/hike up to the bridge where we could see a lot of people taking photos. It was well worth it as the view is most likely the same one that we saw in all the photos-the leaves were just starting to change color and in a couple more weeks would have been spectacular. They were still great colors now, though. After our 7 Euro parking fee!, we saw a night of canned food ...

Journey Started

... up to 100, and I didn’t bother going much more. Two, this was not a fun bike to drive on the autobahn, because it was to slow to be in a decent lane, but still faster than 90 which is the speed of the big slow truck and trailers. Three, the Autobahn is a boring road - straight, with no scenery. Four, the Tenere, with a full load is still way lighter than my Africa Twin, even when being pushed uphill to a gas station. Five ...

A stop on the tour

This was a lovely little place we stopped at on the bus tour to the castles. Unfortunately, being Sunday, most everything was shut (except for the souvenir shops that is). They have a woodcarving school there that I plan to stop at for a weeklong course on the next trip. But of course it was shut that ...

Walking tour of Munich

so today all of us in the program went on a tour with Barbara, our tutor/mentor/helper. it was fun, we saw the center of the city and the main highlights. i have the stories of all of the stuff in the pictures, but it is in German and a little too complicated for me to translate... there are lions all over the city, tons in the ...

Hello Munich

So I got a gameboy to entertain me on this ridiculously long cruel to the adhd flight. I was the last one to board and they were paging my name. I only had 45 min layover which is not a long time by the time you get off the plane, pee, etc. So they were pagin my name and I said to security ahhh dude (ok maybe I said sir) ahh that's me can you hurry up WRONG thing to say then he was like you are not ...

Time to hand in the keys

... van just to avoid unintentionally spooning one another. 4. We all snored. While we all had our moments in the spotlight, only Snags truly showed the sort of consistency needed to cement him as King Snorer title holder. 3. We produced a lot of bad smells. Naturally I can vouch for a healthy chunk of the smell production, but the combination of dirty clothes, dirty bodies, beery burps and kebabby ***** was pretty nauseating at times. I can only imagine the living ...

Childhood memories

We slept by the 1936 Olympic Ski jump stadium and found the best ice-creams yet. White chocolate and Tiramisu for only 60c a kugel. Throw in Maria's Grill Stube with Schnitzels-a-go-go and we may stay here for ever. They even have a choice of mountains. Our favorite is the unfortunately named ****.

A foreign language to all of us

This is our first country where we couldn't even attempt to communicate in anything but English. We would catch onto a few words, especially when they were similar to English words, but for the most part we just felt bad that we were forcing people to speak English to us. After talking to some Germans, though, we found out that they don't mind practicing with us. This is a much different attitude from the French. Even I have to admit that after being in Paris with ...

Gruss Got!

... the Nymphenburg Palace. It was amazing. I even rented an audio guide so that I could learn more. It was beautiful. The first room was the best . I bought the see-it-all ticket so I really saw it all. I went to all the outbuildings and even the carriage museum. The grounds were amazing. After that I went to the Deutches Museum. This is meant to be the largest museum in the ...

Just like a fairytale

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
