Today we packed up.
There is now more clothes in our dirty washing bag than in our suitcases.
Need laundry ASAP.
We woke up to the sad news of the Sydney siege. We had prayed and hoped that no one would be hurt. We felt sad.
We settled in for our drive to Heidelberg. DJ Dan was up the front with Clint & I.
... cents.....Andy said Germany charges more for everything. We stopped at one servo for a loo break and were amazed at the toilets that were there.....the seat actually rotates and is cleaned before you use it. One of those things you have to see to believe. On we went to Cologne where we saw the Cathedral......an amazing building erected in the 13th century. We also did a little souvenir ...
... its very cheap. Chores in the morning and then off to explore Heidelberg. We were on the lock bridge discussing how we needed to find the info centre so we could find the Castle and other features of the town when we turned around and it nearly hit us in the face. Its huge and sits on the hillside above the town in all its glory. Scrap the info centre we just wandered everywhere and witnessed four weddings in the space of an hour as they all got married in ...
... good local beer and Riesling wine.
The Heidelberg castle, first built in the late 11th century, was burned by lightening strikes, partially destroyed by wars, and was constantly being rebuilt until the late 17th century when the army of King Louis XIV successfully blew-up a good portion of the palace. The castle lay in ruins for most of the 18th century until, in the 19th century, efforts to restore a portion of the castle were begun.

... must have been mountain goats. Straight up a pretty road but I only made it halfway. Too steep for me. Back down, walked to the river, crossed the bridge back to the old town. Visited the various churches and admired the shops on the Hauptstrasse. Will leave the castle and funicular for tomorrow .
Bought some fresh asparagus, strawberries and blueberries for dinner. Too much bread being eaten I'm afraid. Home by 5 and staying in.
Hallelujah the train strike is over. ...
