... Brendan has been pinching me a lot since we have been here lol. We didn't want to leave Portofino, it has an ambience and a quiet sophistication about it, reminds me a lot of St Tropez but is not as pretentious as St Tropez, no big super yachts in the marina etc. Time to head home to Fifi so off we went, traversing the winding coastal road and back on to the train heading for Sestri Levante. ... me. It was good to get to Portofino, part of my International Jetset experience this time! We've reserved a trip to Cinque Terre tomorrow including exploring 2 villages: Vernazza and Monterosso. They take a ph no in case they need to cancel for bad weather, it was much rougher out there today than we imagined but hopefully it will go ahead as it only operates once a week and it would be a shame for Brittany to miss ...

... the way up the ridge from town. It's a good hours walk up and down steep hills but I loved the exercise and fresh country air. The path cuts through Olive groves which look unchanged through vast amounts of time, no doubt being cared for by generation after generation. Locals have been living and dying here for so long living in similar ways it was a refreshing tonic away from today's hectic big city living.
