... likely international tourists, had turned out to see the fireworks over the ocean. A group of Hare Krishnas were deliriously singing, dancing and playing instruments, surrounded by a group of delighted onlookers. We turned into town to see how people were getting ready to celebrate New Year in the bar/club/restaurant quarter. The area was well policed with officers moving about in groups of four. The Macadamia train and shop is gone, the pineapple tourist side of things is gone, and there was a small local market in the huge shop area. Even the best ice creams etc are no longer available. Very disappointing that there is no souvenirs anymore, not sure how much longer there will even be the train ...

... and decided it wasn't really my thing so I enjoyed the sun on the beach while Martin stayed out there for the next couple hours having quite a few good runs and an equal amount of epic failures like yours truly. We had booked the board until 4pm and ended up returning it around 3:30 before grabbing some dinner and heading out of town. We stopped just outside of Byron Bay for the night.

Last couple days of Australia coming up!
