... made the tight corners exciting. The track was still fairly smooth here, worn by the tyres of many jeeps etc. The downhill momentum meant that you could just sail, with your hands controlling the brakes.
A word about 'downhill' with respect to mountain biking. An amateur like myself, when looking at a 'Downhill Course', might initially think 'Oh good, the whole course goes downhill. I don't want uphill anyway, that will be too difficult'. Although it is true that a ...

Trekking out Mae Raem

... there after midday and within seconds Ken and I were in. The water was freezing but we couldn't resist swimming right up to the waterfall and standing underneath! It was an amazing experience. After about 45 minutes we sat in the shade to eat lunch - noodle soup followed by fresh pineapple - then walked another couple of hours to a truck which led us to our next adventure... riding on elephants! We sat on them for an hour through the jungle and in the river... Quite a rocky experience! If we ...

Elevens, Boots and Tescos here. We spent yet another day traveling this time on a bus to Chang Mai. We arrived that night finding it difficult to find a guesthouse as they were all full! By the time we found one we just had tea a few drinks then hit the sack.

The next day we hired a motorbike and drove around the city. It is huge and very western ...

... over the phone, but you can call and check to see if space is available.By Bus -- Buses from Bangkok to Chiang Mai are many and varied: from rattle-trap, non-air-con numbers to fully reclining VIP buses. ... in BIG letters-- "I F***ked Your Boyfriend". If she only knew......

I got to the CM train station at 7 AM on 23 June for my 8:45 train. AFTER we got there the tuk tuk driver says "No Train Today. Train workers against government. You want ride to bus station?"

I dismissed this as the talk of a guy mugging for an extra fare in a challenging economy. I got a bowl of noodle soup, then was ...

The problem with this is that I've now slightly restricted myself as will have to come back through Chiang Mai before travelling home to buy all of you lovely people presents. By contrast the following night, I headed out of the old town (it's a walled square with a simple ...

Burn After Reading

... In a place where people are spilling over and burning down the forests, the Elephants hardly stand a chance. Their numbers are dwindling, though they are still in better shape than India. I did not know that the wild Asian Elephant is now in the endangered species list. Even then, many of the so called countless 'Elephant Parks' exploit the Elephants to make some quick bucks from the tourists who happy to see ...

Evil Jellyfish
Current mood: depressed

I got stung by a swarm of tiny jellyfish alll over and I am very miserable. At first I just wanted to go home but it should heal soon. I have to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts to avoid looking hideous but I'm in Chiang Mai now in the North (alot colder) so it should be ok. I missed out on swimming all day today and yesterday in the Andaman sea.
