... t understand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzae_Sqb mDE ] So onto the wine tour, where the crew had decided we should “smarten” up our overland look for the day with a theme - hats or ties (or both). Littleman hadn’t shaved for 30 or so days and decided this was also a good day to don a “chopper” mo. See the pics to believe it. We visited 4 wineries (we think) and one had a cheese circle that we took full advantage of. White wines ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa tandlittleman... mention, and wolfed down a quick breakfast in the hotel restaurant before going down to the conference room in the basement to start class. The group was not all entirely well-rested, and even I myself felt like my lecture delivery was a bit stilted. Nevertheless, I got through the material I wanted to, and everyone showed up like they were supposed to. Rudolf the guide also attended and he enjoyed listening to the lecture, but his presence made me a little ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa mebiner... put him in a crate for protection and this morning when i picked him up, he was very limp. sadly, he died about 10 minutes later. i of course cried for many reasons but have to say that this sad situation had an interesting turn because the vet was there today to do a necropsy on him. i really wanted to see it and understand what happened to him. first, this is the only way we knew he was a boy. second, it only proved how powerful ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa tkillip... by a trip to the top of the mountain in the revolving cable car. Fortunately the cloud cleared away mid morning although it was never far away and we had an enjoyable trip to the top taking in the fantastic panorama revealed below. Stopped off at the local supermarket on the way back and bought 10 litres of wine for just under a £20, the cheapest wine on board is £14 a bottle although the spirits are quite reasonable.
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa easygeeze... Town was it should be nick named the windy city, the wind gusted up to 60 kph and whipped around the hostel walls attempting to flatten our tent. At nigh the wind was noisy enough to wear ear plugs and the tent wall kept going in for a suffocate the face manouver. In the evening we drove up to the top of a smaller mountain known as the lions head to marvel at the sunset over the city. On our first full day in Cape ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa coopertrooper... UNLESS someone in the car stood up. Animals see that as threatening and would, indeed, attack. The most interesting? The elephants. They wrestle and play and make low gurgling noises to communicate and blow their trunks LOUDLY if they don't like something (which they did directly at us one day as we were within 10 feet of their babies). They also flap their ears and will take one giant step towards you to let you know they are not happy you are violating their family time! I ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa baronefamilyIn the morning we visited the Slave Lodge, the building used by the Dutch East India Company to house slaves brought to Cape Town from Madagascar, the African interior and even from as far away as Indonesia, Burma and Malaysia. The trade in slaves was highly profitable in those days and Cape Town was one of the main trading posts. It was another depressing chapter in South African and world history to ...
Cape Town, South Africa domjonna... writing and burying the documents so the cooks could pick them up and get them to the outside world. I have to admit, by the end of my township and Robben Island tour, I had such mixed feelings about South Africa. It is truly a beautiful country, with so much to offer the casual tourist. But, its history and current situation left me wanting, and I wasn't sure if I left with hope or despair. I rushed back to the hotel and started my long journey home.
Cape Town, South Africa itsgotime... are not even close. These "Gulf of Mexico" beverages, as they are listed on the menu, are the biggest popcorn bowls you've ever seen, filled with every sort of alcohol you can imagine. We returned to the Waterfront at about 15:30 and were starting to feel the effects of these giant bowls by about 15:45. They might not have been the best life decision, but they were a definitely a party in a bowl. Needless to say, that started our night off ...
Cape Town, South Africa snhal24... going into the wilds to camp out under the stars so I can once again take a **** out in the open but this time not at 0 zegrees but to make it interesting with the lions, giraffes and elephants. So what does this place look like? A thoroughly modern city with an island-like feel. The Victoria and Albert Waterfront is lovely, with shops and wharfs and the expected boats and touristy street performers. Some people have complained ...
