... call if you have an emergency while traveling; it is also the person who will assess emergencies at home and determine if you need to be notified. The PCP should be reliable and close to home. S/he should also be available and willing. Europe, Germany europeupclose... speed highway sucks. I'm not seeing anything and I'm detouring away from where I'm going. Time to go cross country. I get off at the next exit and the GPS keeps on trying to re-direct me to the Autobahn (the fastest way to my destination). I need a solution. I enter a town in the general direction I'm going into the GPS as a "via" point. There we go! My speed has slowed down considerably and I'm making a lot of detours. The GPS also doesn't warn me fast enough ...
Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany cobra1899... and one of the couchsurfers even said I was like ‘a professional tour guide.’ She was from Switzerland and said she’d be glad to repay the favor, so I have to consider that! (The Alps have been beckoning all year)
Well, I wish I had a bunch of exciting things to talk about, but I’m not really overflowing with stories these days. I’m sorry if you’ve missed the letters, and hopefully I’ll pick ...

Saint Goar, Germany flicandsimon... 8230;and certainly have every bit as much right-of-way as cars!) Well this car just pulled out right in front of me, but then saw me at the last second and so just stopped right in the way. I slammed on the brakes and skidded all over the place before crashing into the front of the car. I was envisioning coming up with a good excuse for a bloodied face and missing teeth from a close encounter with the hood…fortunately ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... so you can see what I’m talking about.
The emotional connection to Weimar has never been stronger. After bidding farewell to Scott I bump into people all over town from the school. This place is becoming smaller and smaller. Being a teacher, it is really important that I keep myself well groomed and on my best behavior. Running into students is a very common occurrence!
In the afternoon I decide to enjoy the weather and bike up to ...
... I was due. They are so strange and unpredictable…and wow is it tough to teach a class when you have a splitting headache and tunnel vision! (not to mention ride your bike to school!) Fortunately it passed relatively quickly and I could finish the day with only a big headache but without the debilitating tunnel vision.
I also hosted a girl from Quebec Tues and Wed nights via couchsurfing. She is studying in Freiburg and was a ...
... Ireland for a semester there. She’s also 23 but because she never stays in one place very long she still has another year or so of school to go.
We tour Goethe’s haus in Weimar and the Anna Amalia library (at least the free part of it) and check out the inside of the Herder Church, which although it is right next to my apartment I had never gone inside!
By now it is dark and so we come up to my flat and we have some tea and the rest ...
... lake and fountain. I kept thinking...leaks?, I hope not! It was festival time and there were marquees all around selling trinkets, food, grog and clothing. We did the usual stroll up the very fine streets admiring all the fashion house outlets which reminded us of similar streets in Capri...only for the well heeled. Baden Baden was where the wealthy spent their leisure time and their money. The city buildings were opulent and many of them were ...
