So today i had to wake up at 5 (bleh) catch a bus to Pesaro then a train to Rivenna. Most of my day was spent going between churches. Today's story is mostly pictures. Look into Rivenna, its facinating. Buildings from the 5th century! Got to eat gelato at the end. Good ...

... selection of the surviving mosaics were depicting the siege of Constantinople (which led to its fall in 1204)! Okay, maybe no one else (including Ben) feels that warrants the exclamation mark, but this medievalist does! After that, our stops were one amazing set of mosaics after another, along with a fine selection of altar panels, pottery shards, Egyptian death masks, and early modern armor in the museum.

All in all, Ravenna was a win.

... detour through the mountains. By the time we reached Ravenna, the sun was out and it was a nice day of walking through a city with spectacular mosaics in the Basilicas and Baptistries. Ravenna itself is a modern town except for the few churches and religious buildings left in the older part of town.
