Lots to report today. We had one of our best rides yet along the coast from Peschici to Manttinata through Gargano Park. Lots of rolling hills, little traffic and beautiful vistas. Between Manttinata and Manfredonia, our final destination for the day, there only two routes. One is a 2 km tunnel, closed to bikes, and the other is a mountainous road with many switchbacks. Unfortunately the local police had closed the road for a car race. We used ...

This morning got off to a rocky start. We took a "shortcut" which looked extremely promising on the map, however, the dirt road gradually turned into a two track and then a sand path through a swamp which was infested with most of the world's mosquitoes. Our room is on the very front corner (Forward) on the right side (starboard), cabin #8000. The only negative is that my bed is the top bunk. It reminds me of when I was 8 years old, when I shared bunk beds with Toni. It was fun back then, 50 years later, not so fun. The guy that cleans our room each morning turns the beds each evening and ...

... we got back on the bus and drove through the snow capped Apennines on our way to Vieste. Vieste is a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast that is a favorite holiday retreat of the Italians and Germans but little known to most Americans. We stayed in the old town in a cliff side hotel which was unexpectedly modern and beautiful. There are many narrow streets of about 8 feet wide and many other dwellings and ...

... might be one of the best examples.

Everything was free for two nights, as long as Signor e Signora booked into the restaurant for Sunday lunch at €39 a head. What could go wrong?

Signora, bless her soul, is developing a life of piety. Whenever asked, for instance, on her nutritional preferences, she will extoll with a flourish of arms, the virtues of vegetables, no fish or meat, just lots of vegetables and only a glass of wine. Such was the case, when Signora booked ...
