Stopover in Singapur

Very, very impressed!

... and couldn't wait to use the MRT again! We went to see China Town - felt like we were in china (believe it or not!), lots of shops and stalls selling beautiful chinese things. We came back and ventured into the nearby shopping Mall! Patrick left us as he was flying home tonight so it was us girls left to it in the shops - oh oh! We spent hours without realising! I just can't get over how clean everywhere is, it is illegal to chew ...

The Art of a City

... a very law-abiding or law-fearing nation and therefore felt much more tense and cautious moving around almost feeling like we were doing something wrong when we obviously weren't. Of course in reality things were different and the atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant.

We took a stroll through the town in the afternoon and were really quite impressed by the place. In comparison to the other Asian cities we'd been to it was clear that Singapore ...

Colonial District, Marina Bay and Fort Canning

... to Raffles Hotel. The hotel complex took up an entire block and was set in nice, cool gardens. After some photos and time spent watching the elaborately dressed hotel staff tending to their duties we walked back across the street to the Civilian War Memorial in the War Memorial Park which was also adjacent to our hotel.

Next we walked across to Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay via an underpass. The buildings look like a couple of fly's eyes or ...

I've heard its a nice place...

... because he was lost... I helped with my iphone gps. We got to the airport finally (an hour later than planned) but he was nice about it and didnt charge me for the time we were lost.
My plan was to drop my bags off at the airport and then go have a look around Singapore since i had another 6 hours before my flight. This also did not work out because they said I could not check my bags until an hour before my flight, and so I sat in a chair for 6 hours until my flight arrived.

Feeling poorer in Singapura?

... br>We found we didn’t have enough time in Singapore so extended our trip for one more day but still didn’t manage to see everything.
Singapore is a great city – another one we would consider living in. If you can cope with the retail overload there is so much to see and do a very, very nice city!

Here are the Photos.

Next stop back to the beach and some of the best coral reefs in the world in Redang, Malaysia

In and Out

... me smack bang in the red light district. I wonder if I am an overnight or "transit" customer??? "What is a transit rate?" I ask. "By the hour". Hmmm nice. "Is breakfast included?" Silly question. Far too late to move somewhere else, surprisingly nice room, clean sheets, plastic cover underneath, yuk ...

They call free time on vacation

... know I am in a program at GW in which we travel and study media and how the media can hold a given government accountable for past or present actions. This was very interesting to study in Singapore because the government has a very tight hold on the media and has several laws prohibiting many topics or attitudes being published in the news. We met with several journalists and the like while in Singapore and most expressed the challenge of publishing stories that ...

Singapore River Cruise

... I had photographed. The incredible sculpture is called "The First Generation" by Chong Fat Cheong. I actually think that I appreciate my time in Singapore more in retrospect than at the time. Maybe if I'd had more time and money it could have been a richer experience. There was also little opportunity to meet people & I have found that this is the most enjoyable part of travelling.
