... was built to lock the Minotaur in. Today there is just some stones and other pieces of rubble but from what I imagined I think the palace would be really impressive especially for something that was built 4000 years ago. Unfortunately a British archeologist, Arthur Evans, in the 1900's found it and tried to recreate the palace how he thought it should be. Modern archeologists now think he got it a lot wrong. Today we had a long drive along the highway to Knossos, an archeological site. It was a Minoan palace which is nearly 4000 years old. It was home to a king who asked Apollo for a bull to sacrifice to honour Apollo. The bull was so beautiful though that the king sacrificed another one, which made Apollo angry. He then made the queen fall in love with the bull, which produced the Minotaur, a half human, half bull, which lived on human blood. A labyrinth was built to ...

Minolas came just before 12 so chatted to ...

Last night I stayed in a lovely boutique hotel in the town of Haifa and had dinner with Yigal and Amir from AOPA, who had been so helpful while in Israel. Amir flies a Tecnam P92 and undertakes adventures around the med, flying off to Cyprus, Greece and in a few weeks Italy and Croatia. After dinner we went to his dental surgery, gorgeously positioned high on the mountain that looks down on the picturesque Haifa ...

... St Minas Cathedral - we'renot sure why Heraklion has 2 Greek Orthodox Cathedrals. St Minas is one of Greece's largest churches and has twin towers and a cruciform shape, unlike the other Greek Orthodox churches we've visited. It's a impressive building, both inside and out, and we liked it. The ceiling and upper walls are decorated in icons and there are 3 silver chandeliers (one is huge) but it has tall marble pillars and lots ...
