We woke to the alarm clock today at 6.45am and Ang woke to a head cold. We had to get up early - by what's become our standards - to catch the ship excursion at 8am to Mt Etna and a quaint village called Taormina. Another fine sunny day, forecast to be 29'. It was 28' before 9am according to a digital thermometer we saw, but the day didn't feel as hot as prior days. Today was our first ship excursion and the reason for buying it, US$100 each, was because the cruise info. ...

Tonight we ate at a restaurant called La Capinnina (The Little Bell), which was another of the many establishments camped side-by-side on the Giardini Naxos promenade. While Marina and I split 3/4 of one sandwich, Jacques devoured the other ...

... to see on the moon. At this elevation the we were literally in the clouds, which were being whipped about fiercely by the strong winds. The elevation also meant that the temperature was around 10 degrees at the summit, compared with closer to 30 when we got on the bus. To illustrate the nature of the environment we were in, we found a section of frozen snow still preserved under a pile of igneous rock (solidified lava), and don’t forget this ...

... with no guard rails. You do a little praying, as you go up and down this cliff. Once at the top, the three of us piled out of the cab. We said goodbye to Jacques and began our first day of shopping at the heavenly, and magical place, etched into the side of a cliff hundreds of feet in the air. The first shop we went into, each one of us bought something. Me a pair of amethyst earrings , and Marina an amethyst ring. We ...
