Teatro dei Pupi (on my last evening in Siracusa) proved to be a much richer experience than I had anticipated. I had read that puppetry was a significant Sicilian art form, and 'Rinaldo vendica Albarosa', performed by 4 skilled puppeteers, was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate some of the subtleties of the art. If we thought there were plenty of steps in Venice we soon discovered there are plenty more in Valletta. We are at the top of the hill near the national war museum. When we landed everyone clapped and cheered the pilot. It was quite strange. Michael met us at the airport. Our suitcases were first off the ...

We had decided we would have a relaxing day at the resort today. Turned out I didn't feel so well so after breakfast we returned to the room to read, write emails, etc. While I had a nap G did some study. We moved to the pool for lunch and some relaxing mid afternoon. By late afternoon I was feeling better so we still managed to have dinner at the terrace restaurant and knock off another bottle of ...

... and scenic. We were right. The ground is really loose--almost like beach sand, but it is made of volcanic pebbles. It makes hiking uphill very challenging. The higher we got, the stiffer and more aggressive the wind became. By the time we got near the top I just gage up and sat down so that I could fix my center of gravity in place. We exchanged cameras with another couple so everyone could have good pictures. They had ...
