    ... down the other side and on to Bosingen, near Laupen to stay with Ursula Escher. Andrew and Sara were already there. Andrew spent 1999 as an AFS exchange student with the Escher family, and we had visited them before, in 2006. Great to see Ursula, although sadly Albert died late last year.     Some entrants passed out hot kaffe-schnapps (Kafi Luz). I had a couple to warm up and that hit real fast. Coffee & alcohol with a kick. Definitely warmed up but declined any more or I would not be able to walk (and I can usually hold hard liquor ok... hmm... )

    Entrants ran up to people (like us) and handed out candy, paper ads, fruit. The kid beside us raked in a good haul ...

    ... we took our shoes off and put our legs in the water of the river. The water was . . ., extremely cold, actually cold doesn't describe it, it was frozen cold!! After some bone chilling, numbing effect, it actually felt really nice. Once we made peace with the temperature of the water and were enjoying the view, the tranquility of the sound of the river, we saw some locals stripping their clothes ...

    ... I had a little section of 4 seats and a small table all to myself and my suitcase :) The views were lush - we went right around the side of a massive lake (which I have yet to work out the name of!) and past many towns and cities, in which the buildings are beautiful - each is different and the architecture is so intricate even on normal houses!

    Babeth and little 3 year-old Max greeted me at the station, and drove me from Bern centre ...
