The cool thing about arriving in a new place at night is that when you wake up you get to see it in a whole new light. This Mediterranean fishing port on the Istrian coast is even more charming by day. After a much needed leisurely start to the day we wandered down the polished cobbled stone streets in search of bikes. For 50 kuna (about 10 New Zealand dollars) each you can hire a bike for 5 hours. So that's what we did. The Istrian peninsula ...

Burano one of Venice's many islands is like Venice but a lot smaller and way more colourful. It reminded me a bit of La Boca in Buenos Aires. Brightly coloured buildings line the canals and although busy with tourists at this time of year, a lot quieter and it has a sense of calm about it. It is very charming. We have an early bus in the morning, so we turn in early

... We snap a few shots and as we are speaking to each other with our American accents, we are approached by a couple - she of very non-American accent, from Canada, traveling the world for the past 7 years. I get an uneasy feeling of a scam coming on (history repeating?) but as it turned out they were just a couple of interesting people, he's able to work in IT from anywhere with a wifi connection so they travel, she's Romanian but calling Vancouver home ...

Pula through Rijeka and headed down the mainland

... this in the U.S.! After sucking up all the history we could it was back on the road up the east Istrian coast to the mainland, through the big city of Rijeka. Ivan and told us the weather was supposed to change and it did in a big way. It got cold and windy...really windy. Soon black clouds gathered... We called it a day in the small coastal town of Nova Vindolski ...not much of a town, more of a vacation place for locals with a nice marina. It was late so we found a ...
