Historical Traveler Reviews of Park Ljubljana
I miss my shorts
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was fine enough, BUT while we were out exploring the town, we returned to find that the cleaning staff did more than make the beds... they stole my shorts AND a brand new sweater. I don't accuse lightly (the clothes were there just before they cleaned, and gone just after). The front desk displayed a consciousness of guilt. I'll never see those clothes again, may they rest in peace.
Beware

Clearly from other reviews and our experience this hotel has widely different levels of quality which should be known before booking (different price levels). Renovation of building/rooms only partial. Ask to see room first at check-in. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast fine.

Ljubljana magic

Tthree of us had a wonderful few days in Ljubljana in early September 2005. I would recommend the Hotel Park which, while a little spartan, is clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced and has an excellent breakfast. Lake Bled is an absolute must at about 40 minutes driving from the city centre although a surprising lack of road signage meant we rather involuntarily visited several other rather nice towns on the way. I particularly recommend the Saturday morning market alongside the Tri bridge which is surprisingly well-stocked with a large organic section, high-quality musical entertainment for all ages and special activities for children and as much as anything else the market reflects Slovenian society. The information centre by the Tri Bridge is one of the best I have encountered with free water and free Internet, a multilingual and extraordinarily helpful staff. I now think of Ljubljana as the town of flowers, fun and music... and am planning another visit next year.
Better than expected

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and I must say that it was very good for the money. After reading some reviews I was expecting the worst. Basic but clean. V good breakfast. At £23 per night in a downtown location what more could you want. Ljubljana is a lovely city with a river side cafe culture. Pitty about the graffiti on the walls and the cold and impersonal waiters in the cafes!
Good choice

Stayed here in March as the winter snows were melting with 6 friends for a weekend. The hotel is centrally located, quite shocking looking from the outside, looks to the irish eye like a block of council flats. On the inside however it is a different story, the rooms were nice and clean, we had a tv unlike some of the other reviewers. We did have some problems with the sockets however as it was very difficult to plug a mobile phone charge into them as they were located bery close to counter tops but thats a minor point. The staff were friendly but we were a little puzzled by their insistance on keeping our passports for the duration or our visit and not even in a safe - just placed in the pigeon holes for the keys. Even worse was that we were given somebody elses passport when checking out!
The hotel parc is reasonably priced and unless you are looking to be in the lap of luxury and have CNN and room service, you will find this hotel quite adequate.
The neighbourhood while looking a little tough is quite safe and we didn't encounter any trouble during our stay
Dulux colour Card hotel!!

Hotel Park is a nice hotel. which is very well located. While it does not look amazing from the outside, hence the title of this post, it is certainly a lot nicer inside.
The rooms are nicely furnished and well equipped. The bathroom is decent, is the television.
Staff were ok, as was the breakfast.
Enjoy
Not bad for a budget hotel

This is a budget hotel with a fantastic location. Our room was spotless, bathroom great. No TV/phone but we didn't need or expect it. The breakfast was fine, quite a good choice with hot and cold food available, cereals, fruit and cheese/ham.
The staff were friendly and very helpful - with information on places we wanted to travel to and holding our bags once we'd checked out.
Ljubljana is a lovely city - very laid back and safe. Culture everywhere and if you can't afford to stay in one of the bigger hotels, Hotel Park is fine and what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in location
Communist Prison Block?
from flashbadger
This place had a good location. 1/2 way between the station and the town centre about 500 metres.
Ljub is a lovely city. this hotel is really poor. The room was like a prison cell. no TV. quite expensive and my girlfriend got an electrick shock from the plug!
Anyway good points was the location and it was reasonably clean. Much much better options are the dominia at the more expensive end and the youth hostel bang next door looked absolutely wonderfull bright and breezy with double rooms at about 20 euros a night (it used to be a prison but is now more like an art gallery!). (we couldnt get booked in there)
Do not stay here if you have a choice.
Park yourself in Ljubljana

The Hotel Park is probably one of the cheapest hotels near the centre of Ljubljana.
The view out of our fourth floor room was uninspiring; a small square of grass (the park, perhaps?) surrounded by 15 storey grey concrete apartment buildings. A path led through the grass to the road leading to the centre of the old part of the city.
In many cities, you might describe the hotel surroundings as unsafe. However, Ljubljana must be one of the safest cities on the planet. In fact, the area was very quiet. The edge of the old city is a mere 400 yards or so from the front entrance of the Hotel Park and so we had no issues with not being able to explore the city on foot easily. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the old city area.
The Hotel Park is also only about half a mile from the bus and train station in Ljubljana, and is perfectly manageable.
Considering that the centre of Ljubljana is crammed full of old merchant houses and properties of distinction, it is perhaps a disappointment to find that the Hotel Park is a non descript white 12 storey concrete tower with over 100 rooms. Unlike the other blocks on the square, at least the Hotel Park looks recently renovated and the concrete is solid.
The reception desk offers a free safety deposit box service; while I didn't use this facility, our companion's did and found the process trouble free. Behind the reception desk and by the lifts are a couple of PC's that guests can use for internet access. Also on the ground floor is the hotel restaurant.
This is a budget restaurant with evening meals on offer for 7 E ($9). The restaurant could hardly be described as atmospheric but again, it is clean and tidy. We only ate here for the free breakfast.
To get breakfast, you have to pick up a coupon at the reception desk and hand it to the wait staff as you enter the restaurant. The breakfast on offer was adequate if not wonderful. The part of the restaurant reserved for breakfast consisted of benches and tables with plastic tablecloths. I love East European style.
There was a good selection of cereals and a choice of bread with jams, cold boiled egg, or pig. It was potluck whether you picked a piece of stale bread. Also on a hot plate, an unappetising looking melee of scrambled egg, bacon and chopped and bouncy looking pink sausage sat forlorn and unloved.
Overall breakfast was a little ho hum, but considering it's paid for, it's worth wandering in for a bite to eat each morning.
Our room was small and basic, but spotless and quiet. The floor was modern solid flooring, which meant that it was easy to clean but without much comfort. There were just a couple of small rugs to hide the austere flooring.
The beds were comfortable, with single duvets on two single beds pushed together to form a double.
The hotel also provided a small portable TV, with CNN and 4/5 foreign language channels. Our room was en-suite, but the bathroom was tiny, with a tiny shower.
Renovation of the hotel has recently taken place and so everything in the room and bathroom is quite new and clean looking. Staff cleaned and tided our room each day.
