Avoid using your credit card
I am not surprised to see the bad reviews for this hotel. My room had no heat on a cold Milwaukee night, had exposed wood flooring in the bathroom from a good size piece of the floor covering being ripped (that must be a code violation) and lacked other basic amenities. Further, hotel staff could not be any more rude. I checked out after the first night even though I planned to stay for about 4 nights.
To my surprise, they charged my credit card for the full stay even though at check out they only charged me for the one night and the clerk said there was no problem with checking out early under the circumstances. But then they did charge my card about a month later for the full amount. After going through the dispute process with my credit card company, the charge was credited. But amazingly, 9 months later the charge reappeared.
Run, don't walk, away
I booked the Park East for my wedding reception (on 1/1/2005) back in April. We found the prices reasonable and the room quite nice. The catering manager was VERY bad at getting back to us (as in taking weeks to return a call), but we tried to take it with a grain of salt. However, last week we went in to nail down some things and they raised their prices by 100%!! Sersiously, 100%. While it says in our contract they can raise prices at any time, this is absolutely unacceptable. Also, she handed us the new price sheet without even a mention of the price increase. It wasn't until we got home that we realized the prices were doubled. We have canceled our reception with them (four months before the wedding) and are going somewhere else.
Worst experience ever
If you want to kick your stress level up several notches, stay here. Every person we encountered, from the desk clerk to the shift manager, was rude and uncaring. Service was non-existant. Rooms were not ready at check in, including for the parents of the bride on the wedding day, the shuttle van was "unavailable" despite reserving it significantly in advance, and the entire hotel seemed unclean and had an unappealing odor. Rates were extremely overpriced for sub-par facilities.
I would never consider them again
We booked our reservations online and once we arrived at the hotel, they only had one of our reservations, which was wrong. We had requested a room with 2 double beds and all they had was a room with a single bed and had no other rooms available. As we were deciding what course of action to take, we could see the "customer service" reps mocking us in the window. Needless to say, we left shortly after. After contacting the online travel agency and seeing proof of their confirmation from the hotel, it seems that they must have overbooked the hotel and booted us or lost the reservation.
Also, good luck with parking. They have a parking lot attached but it was filled with cars from people visiting the night club and had no room for actual hotel vistors.
Don't Do It
The hotel itself is nice enough - clean, rooms are fine, nothing fancy. The bar/restaraunt are, in fairness, lovely, if extremely overpriced for Milwaukee. However, the management and staff are a nightmare. I stayed there for a wedding. The bride and groom were promised one room for the reception, with the use of the roof included, and were given another room and told the roof was "not available" with no apologies or offers of remuneration on the day of the reception. One of the entrees served at the reception was not what the couple had ordered and paid for. But this is another story. For my part, I was irritated to find that the front desk did not have my reservation and could find nothing under my name when I arrived. I was hastily assured that they could give me a room, no problem, and that my credit card would NOT be double-charged, despite having secured a room with a credit card already. Needless to say, as I had feared, I was charged for two rooms instead of the one I actually used (and had booked). I spent the following week playing phone tag with the bubble-headed front desk manager, trying to get this money charged back to my card. I finally gave up and called the owner, who still has not called me back. I am preparing to file fraud charges with my bank and to alert the Better Business Bureau.
Second rate all around
We had reserved a suite, but it was set up to accomodate three people who were arriving the next day, and this made it crowded for us. The refrigerator had been left open and was all iced over. The bottom sheet on the bed was stained and was too small to ruck in. The "complimentary" breakfast was minimal at best, and there was no chef at 9 am if you wanted a hot breakfast.
There's little to recommend about this hotel other than the excellent location. Both the handling of the guests at checkin and the physical facilities indicate indifferent management at best. Between mishandling our internet reservation, long lines at checkin and initially being assigned to an already occupied room, it was about an hour between arrival and actually getting in our room. The room was a bit dingy but the rate was OK so I guess you get what you pay for.
Park East - Value & Convenience
Used several times on business. Rooms are not deluxe but adequate. Free parking, free breakfast, affordable rates. Close to lakefront for jog/walks. Shuttle service available if carless.
Convenient hotel at reasonable price
The staff was friendly, and always willing to assist me. The price is very reasonable. I have stayed here two times, and the hotel is comfortable. Request to stay on the business floor. The hotel has roof access which provides a decent view of the city. If business took me to Milwaukee again, I would probably stay here again.
Park East ho hum.
The service was adequate, even friendly. However, there was no ambience whatsoever. It was cold and sterile with poorly decorated rooms. They are also doing major renovations, which I was not made aware of. I would not stay there again and I wouldn't recommend it either.
Good service, yucky hotel.

Gail knew of a camping spot in El Paso, nooo Nellie not Texas, it is in Illinois. It was behind the local Super 8 Motel. The spot had 30 amp electric only so we were able to watch a little TV and had lights to see by. Total cost for the night was $15.00. We had driven 9 hours and only went 205 miles.
I sure hope accidents and cold are not a harbinger of things to come. All in all it was a good day. ...
