Because of Trieste's convenient location, we decided to take the opportunity to explore a couple more countries. Trieste rests on the border with Slovenia, and following our trip to Venice we returned to Trieste before heading out along the Socca River Valley. The valley was beautiful with stunningly bright blue waters running from the Julian Al...
My first trip out of Zurich didn't take long. 3 weeks after arriving I was off to Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Slovenia is a country of 2 million people that borders Italy, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, and the Mediterranean Sea that was part of the former Yugoslavia.

We stayed for two nights at the Park Hotel Bled.
This is a "rustic" hotel lacking some of the typical amenities you would normally expect in a hotel. There is no air conditioning and no bath tubs. The hotel and the rooms are a bit dated, but they fit with the quaint locale.
We found the room to be too warm, despite having the window open and using the oscillating fan, which was provided.
The two single beds, pushed together, were also on the older side and a little uncomfortable.
Many of the rooms over look the lake, which is breathtaking. There is high speed internet for free in all the rooms, which was a nice to have.
The meals were okay. Not spectacular, but not horrible.
All-in-all, it was a decent stay.

Very nice hotel. All of the refurb. has been completed. Wonderful view of the lake. Hotel is a hotel used for group travel, but it has lots of public space -- in the lobby and on each floor and a staff that moves the bags wuickly - so that it is not a problem. Great breakfast. Try to get a lake front room. Free internet service which is not the case in lots of hotels. Great location - on the lake and within walking distance of shopping center, casino, cafe, places to eat in all price ranges. We stayed here on a tour with breakfast included so
Spent a week at the hotel and were very pleased by the friendliness of the staff and the excellent range of food at breakfast and dinner. Although both meals were buffet-style, the staff were extremely efficient and ensured that all items were constantly available.
Our lake view room was spacious and although there was some noise from nearby cafes etc. this was kept under control and certainly didn't spoil our stay.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
Great lake and mountain view
We stayed 2 nights with 2 rooms for a family of 4. The hotel was clean and no sign of recently commented refurbishment. It seemed to us more of a business hotel but would be a suitable base for walking or activity holidays. Most of the resident were older and there were few children. Food was a good standard with plenty of choice for breakfast and evening meal. Local wine is good. Staff were always cheerful and helpful, and all spoke English as well as various other languages. The pool on the top floor is a good size but no towels provided. There is a small outside terrace with sunbeds and also a small gym. The hotel has one pc for internet access which is well used. We had lakeside rooms with great views, but the music from the town can be a little noisy - we had a local band one evening. There is a better sister hotel, Hotel Golf, across the road which is more modern with better facilities. Park residents can use the facilities. The walk around the lake is highly recommended.
Rooms extremely hot in summer
A bit like faulty towers as there were a lot of repairs going on, this hotel was in the process of being refurbished. The lobby and restaurant area is very nice and the food is of good quality. However, the rooms are tired and dated. The unfurbished rooms were in need of a good dusting with cobwebs in the corners. The refurbished room to which we were moved was a lot cleaner but in June extremely hot. Advertised as having air conditioning the air conditioning was nothing much more than a fan in the corner of the room. So the rooms were extremely hot to sleep in. Could not open window due to noise from street area, even on lake side, and hundreds of mosqitoes and flys. Great views and lovely location but a little bit down market. Restaurant staff lovely and very helpful. Reception staff polite but stern.
Fantastic hotel in beautiful Bled
We have just arrived home from Slovenia having stayed on a twin centre holiday .Our first week staying at the Hotel Larix in Kranjska Gora which was excellent -lovely hotel ,food and scenery and the second week staying at the Hotel Park in Bled .This has just undergone refurbishment and is an excellent hotel .The staff cannot do enough for you throughout the hotel and the rooms are decorated and fitted out to a high standard .Meals are served buffet style with an excellent selection both for breakfast and evening meal ,being cooked to a high standard -staff checking the food counters throughout keeping areas clean and making sure there is enough food .The pool is on the top floor and has a breathtaking view over the lake and surrounding areas .We were in Bled during the Rikli Festival weekend which involved music ,craft stalls and candles floating on the lake on Saturday with fireworks aferwards -well worth being there for .Bled is really a lovely place with many places to visit .One being the island in the middle of the lake ,which you can row over to yourself or go by pletna and be rowed .There is so much to see of interest in and around Bled .It is a place we would definately recommend and will be visiting again ourselves soon .
Swimming in the sky
A marvellous holiday in a really comfortable and friendly hotel. We had a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the town and with a view of the mountains in the distance. There was a certain amount of noise from music events in the square opposite on week-end evenings, but everything went quiet at midnight. Fantastic buffet breakfasts every morning and free access throughout the day to the rooftop pool. Swimming there was like swiiming in the sky as you have a wonderful view of the lake below and the castle on the hill.
Although this hotel is very 80s and has dated furniture in the rooms, if you get a lake view room, it is wonderful. We had a balcony with a view of Lake Bled which made it all worthwhile. But don't expect a new five-star hotel. The breakfast is very nice also, and there is a massage service which I can highly recommend. The pool also has great views of the lake.
We stayed at the Park from 26/3/05 to 2/4/05. The room was tastefully decorated and wardrobes and storage had been well thought out. The bathroom was of reasonable size, had quality fittings and was very clean. We booked in B&B only, but did have an evening meal one night and the quality of food was good. We had breakfast in bed on our first morning; it arrived on time and was excellently presented (including flowers and sparking wine that we had not ordered). We also used their Pizzeria (good) and their Rikli Restaurant (excellent). We did not use all the leisure facilities but did enjoy the swimming pool and its panoramic views of the lake. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We could not fault our stay and to cap it all we got a very good rate that made our stay of exceptional value.
Largish hotel located close to the commercial center and almost alongside Lake Bled. Our room had all the necessary amenities with the exception of air conditioning which forced us in the summer to sleep with the windows open and pick up the traffic noise and that made by any late night revellers. We stayed at this hotel as part of a package tour of Slovenia. It seems to be set up as accommodation for tour groups such as the one we were part of. Standard of food in the restaurant is good.
Pretty on the outside only
Bled is a gorgeous area to stay in, the lake is like something out of a dream. But choose another hotel instead of the Hotel Park. We arrived in mid-June and Slovenia was experiencing warmer than average weather. The hotel had NO A/C (not even in the lobby) and NO FANS!! The rooms were stuffy and also, desperately in need of refurbishing. We left the sliding glass door open for some air only to close it at 3am because we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes. The hotel staff was quite indifferent, no help in suggesting nearby activities or local restaurantsand when we checked out, there were 2 charges for movies that we'd never authorized. The manager took them off, but gave us a little too much attitude. This hotel I believe has 3 or 4 star rating...but it is in the 2 star category. Stay elsewhere.
