When I told my room-mate that I am going to Venice, he said "You could also visit Sirmione if you get some extra time". ... to the Monument cemetery. A truly different kind of cemetery from those in the states. A very large area with big headstones, mausoleums, monuments and photos of the dead. The Italians take funerals and remembering the deceased very seriously. Our last stop was at the kitschy Balcony of Juliette. Although a fictional character of Shakespeare, this is a popular stop with a balcony for the tourists.

The afternoon was getting late and our feet ...

... the old city. Hotel Columba D'Oro is only a block from the old Roman Arena that now serves as a concert venue. Upon check-in we were informed that Sunday was the last of a three day regional wine tasting event being held in Verona old town. Over sixty wineries of the Veneto region offered Soave, Valpolicella, Amarone and a few Sparkling wines for visitors to try. The tasting was great bargain ...
