Back to Bucharest and Packing to Go Home

... the churches pay taxes to the government. Vio said that some church leaders
get a salary from the government.

I guess I dozed and missed some of his talking. We stopped back in Sinaia for lunch on our own and returned to the Marriott in Bucharest where we stayed our first night of the post-trip extension to Transylvania. ...

          My take on Romania.

          Thoughts on Romania.
It's a place of great contrasts,
extreme poverty sits right alongside obscene new wealth.

Stray dogs are everywhere in great
numbers, some chase motorcycles too, but you'll see old folk with a
          cow on a lead???

Out in villages in the countryside
everyone seems to want to live alongside the road with many of them
using the location to sell their ...

It was a mixed bag that met us this
morning when we awoke and we were still undecided on our plan for the
day. The weather forecast seemed to be against us which didn't help
          us much at all.

Jochen had some gps stuff to sort out,
so after a late breakfast it was almost 10am by the time we hit the
road. We decided that since we had come this far we might as well
          try to ride the ...

Day 21 Aug 2 (164km) It You Slatina Not Me

So far Slatina is the only place I despise so far.

The roads are really nice into Slatina but everything else seems very outdated. The Amish should be ashamed of how much technology they use compared to rural Western Romanıa. Most of the people were working the fields with scythes. Speaking of the first person I saw carrying a scythe was only wearing flip flops and small green shorts which were hanging a bit too low. ...

          Gritty City

Waking up in Belgrade, we both felt like we had grit in our teeth from the very air. Seeing the city in the daylight, it seemed just as dirty as the evening before but not protected by the cover of night. We left the car parked at the hostel and walked in the direction of the Kalmegdan fortress that we'd read about but still had no real idea what it was. Everyone we passed had yummy looking pastries, so we added a bakery to our list of attractions to see and picked up a ...
