... prayers before sending them down the ganges. After having a wash, and dodging the bhindi girls (who always wanted rupees - no questions asked) we made our way into town for a bite to eat. On route we were stopped by many people, but the most memorable being a family who could not beleive that english travellers would choose to visit the Hindu spiritual city! They were so lovely and we spent time taking pictures and chatting. We ate amazing food and went to bed happy campers.. :-)<br ...

Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India ulka... little floating fires were sparse and few in between...but it was still nice to watch and made for some very interesting photo opportunities. We took a jeep back (Carla and Paulo were quite exhausted still from their trip) and got off at the Little Buddha restaurant (the one the girls had tried finding the night before). We went up to last floor and enjoyed the atmosphere a bit. I had ...

We persevered and had lunch at the top at a small shrine complete with the requsite bells and prayer flags! We had a quick glimpse of Nandi ...

Haridwar, India chardhamyatra... the Ashram, small communities that exist purley to do yoga and meditate in the most basic environment possible as not to make impure the experience of being a massive hippie. Ashrams also exist in singular form, often just one room with the most basic of washing/toilet facitlities and maybe a hob if you are lucky, people sit in here and do yoga and think about how spiritual they are, but These rooms often open onto busy streets with normal shops/ammienities around them ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India awfullook... accumulated while we sleep, Washing the eyeballs. Drinking a litre of warm water when we wake up, then jumping up and down a little before sticking our fingers down the throat so as to vomit it all up again, bringing with it any undigested residue from the stomach, thus cleansing it in preparation for a new day. Drinking around 5 to 8 litres of salty water whilst in close proximity to a loo, which will be required as the salt water is flushed through ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India vague-abonding... whizzes by like in a movie. I ignore kids begging, showing me with desperate gestures how hungry they are. I feel terrible, but wont give them any money coz this way they will never go to school. Only handycapped people are lucky sometime when I have some change (rare) in my pockets. Yesterday a woman kept following me through several stores pointing to her new born baby. That moment, I feel like the ...
Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India global-romy... in a restaurant over looking the ganga. Today we went to the near by temple and I bought my first souvenier! It's a present for Mom. Maybe I can fedex it home when I get back to Delhi in a month. The ...
