The rose industry is so important to Kazanluk that they have a rose festival (and have had for over 100 years) and choose a Queen of the Roses. There are two criteria for being queen: 1) she must be from Kazanluk, and 2) she must be a senior in high school.

Had a good sleep in and got up about 11am. Walked to the bus station to sort out our ride to Istanbul in a couple of days. Didn't have any dramas with this. So I took the day option of 9am departure, but in hind sight, I should have gone night bus to save time and my bus was delayed 2 hours (apparently normal if you travel with Metro!)..... so arriving at 4am wouldn't have been too bad! Instead, I arrive at 7pm! What a waste of a day! ...

... best meals we’ve had along the way. The only problem was the size of the servings and then they brought pita bread and a salad. The waiter took great delight in showing Dave how his aubergine and lamb skewer should be dissected and packed in pita.
Interestingly he scraped the aubergine flesh off, leaving the skin. I think that’s the best bit! In fact once we’d had enough, I packed up the leftovers and we had three more meals from ...
