So we'd smashed a lot of Mexico into a couple of days of serious bus tripping, to be fair the heat in the hotels/ hostels was so bad the buses were much easier to sleep in. We arrived into Playa Del Carmen around noon and fortunately were based just off the main street at a nice backpacker hostel which actually had other people! Whilst this is not spring break season this area does seem to get visitors all year round. We hear on more than one occasion ...

... I've learnt that having the wrong gear can kill you in harsh environments. It's hard for me to look at a normal recreational divers rig now and not feel queasy. Where are the redundancies! One things about the caves I haven't mentioned yet are the haloclines, which are formed by the mixture of fresh water and salt water. Today we wake at a decent hour to catch the 9am bus to Coba to see the big ruin that over looks the jungle. It's a 2 hour bus ride there so need to be and at it early. Of course, the hostel aren't up before 8 so breakfast isn't close to benign ready. No time for that so we rush out the door and grab a quick bite at the corner store at the bus store. Opted for a 1L bottle of vanilla milk for breakfast and it was very lovely. Craving a good bowl of cereal though so hopefully bunker down for ...

The second day of vacation was spent enjoying the beach and walking around 5th Avenue in downtown Playa last night. The waves were perfect for body boarding, and you can't beat free equipment for giving it a try! The guys spent hours in the surf and attempted to snorkel, a laughable sight to be sure since the waves were so strong. The swim up bar was calling our name after lunch, a great spot for ...

... after meat after meat. Veal, beef, chicken legs, pork, turkey, rabbit, braised beef... and I treat myself to a dessert, even if it's all with cream and I did not bring my Lactaid pills with me. Our waiter keeps on referring to Sabrina as "su esposa" (your wife). We usually are amused by it, but tonight it is bittersweet. Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying my date tonight, Sabrina dressed fancy and beautifully did her hair, but I wish it ...
